The author mainly focuses on the struggles of a man, Kevin Villanueva, who was deported because he was an illegal immigrant in the United States. The author focuses on his story of getting deported back to Honduras and how much of a culture change it was for him. The author also focuses on the struggles that occur when he was deported back to Honduras. Throughout, Kevin describes his whole journey, from almost dying in the hot desert trying to cross the border the first time to getting deported and seeing the struggles that the people of Honduras faced everyday. In this piece, the author, Luke Mogelson, uses a great deal of pathos. In one instance, Mogelson describes when Villanueva crossed the border for the first time when he initially entered
Recently illegal immigration has become a very pressing issue among people. Many people around the borders are being greatly affected by the issue and think immediate action needs to be taken to put a stop to the issue. The Documentary Border War: Battle Over Illegal Immigration takes a stand on the issue using many examples of pathos, ethos, and logos to try and persuade people that illegal immigration is a very serious issue and we need to put a stop to it. This documentary follows the lives of people who have been affected by illegal immigration, and explains how they feel about the issue. Another way that people can look at the issue of illegal immigration is through the eyes of the immigrants, and the reasons why they might be trying migrate to another country. The documentary Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary focuses on the issue from this point of view. This documentary uses pathos and logos to show the lives and hardships of those people who are trying to migrate to a new country. Although Wetback used many examples of pathos and logos to show the struggles of the migrants, Border War did a better job showing pathos by following the lives of people who were affected by the illegal immigrants they were also very persuasive with ethos by following credible people.
Since Galarza grew up in a strong community he was able to experience support from the colonia mexicana in Sacramento, while Rodriguez accounts for Mexican immigrants in various locations in California. Most of the immigrants Rodriguez interviewed or witnessed all had a resemblance to nostalgia. He had saw many drunk and lonely Mexican men, some being only teenagers, and even the men who lived with their families were still homesick. Rodriguez even said that, “the city is evil” (66), while meeting a preacher whose early years were all about drugs, gangs, and being a “junkie”. While most of everything Rodriguez experienced were negative, Galarza had an opposite perspective. It may have be the different locations or time periods that both authors experienced the immigrants lives, but the relations between the Mexicans were more than just the family they had to support, and instead it was the whole community. As Mexicans migrated to the community in Sacramento that Galarza grew up in, they became chicanos, and they were “the name of an unskilled worker born in Mexico and just arrived in the United States” (267). It was so much easier to for the immigrants to make money since the fellow Mexicans provided assistance to those in need of jobs or a place to live, and of it was provided by trusting one another. This poem captures the immigrant experience between the two worlds, leaving the homeland and towards the new world. The poet has deliberately structured the poem in five sections each with a number of stanzas to divide the different stages of the physical voyage. Section one describes the refugees, two briefly deals with their reason for the exodus, three emphasises their former oppression, fourth section is about the healing effect of the voyage and the concluding section deals with the awakening of hope. This restructuring allows the poet to focus on the emotional and physical impact of the journey.
Sacrificing a leg, arm, hand, foot, or even a life is what immigrants go through when crossing the border from Mexico to the United States. Enrique’s Journey: The True Story of a Boy Determined to Reunite with His Mother by Sonia Nazario in 2006. Sonia Nazario being an American journalist and daughter of Argentinean immigrants. This novel can be classified as a biography. Enrique’s Journey involves many themes; however, the main theme of the book is family. Mothers ‘abandoning’ their children and then reuniting. Another main theme would be immigration, which connects the book to history. The author’s purpose is for one to be able to transport themselves into the characters shoes by having sympathy. As well as to those who have empathy and suffered through the same or similar experiences. This will review the overall point of Enrique’s Journey and my own critique of the book itself.
The Red Umbrella by Christina Diaz Gonzalez and “Band-Aid for 800 Children” by Eli Sastow both show the subject of immigration and deportation and how its a problem. In the excerpts the authors used very different techniques and similar techniques to portray a common subject and to show how they feel about this subject

The film The Visitor, offers a significant insight of Tarek immigration experience. The film also offers a unique glimpse into the United States immigration detention system and the people it affects. Tarek was in the train station, when he let Walter use his metro card, and is himself entangled in the turnstile. The policemen’s accused Tarek of jumping the turnstile and gets arrested. At his arrest, is learned that he is an illegal immigrant and taken to a detention center in Queens. This film offers an insight on the injustice and discrimination of the immigration system in the United States.

In The Beast: Riding the Rails and Dodging Narcos on the Migrant Trail, Oscar Martinez comments on the injustices that occur while migrating from Central America. Central Americans are forced to leave their countries in fear of the inevitable consequences. The systematic abuse Central Americans endure while migrating is founded on that fear which results in more repercussions for migrants. The psychological effects of migrating is used by Martinez to give insight on the atrocities that happen in Central America. The corruption involved while migrating in Central America is against human rights and should be brought immediate attention internationally. Martinez uses the experiences of migrants to expose Mexico’s passivity on the subject and to expose readers’ to the hard truths that occur while migrating.
The Hispanic American immigrant experience is one that is both unique in its own right and profoundly American. Although they all may be labeled within the same group, each of these individuals has a story that clearly demonstrates this. Cristina Henriquez is able to capture many of these feelings and experiences that are faced by Hispanic American immigrants quite successfully in her novel The Book of Unknown Americans. The novel covers the story of the Rivera family in the beginnings of their new life in America. They come to this country seeking better schooling for their mentally handicapped daughter.
