“Keep Out” by Fredric Brown, this story is about humans taking young children that have been given a medicine called Daptine, it will allow them to adapt to any geographic environment. Kids which are now to become Martian have been taken up to Mars to colonize a new species. With doing so, they have been controlled a lot, because of being controlled, they got angry at the humans and killed them. In this story the humans control the Martians every move, the humans are also giving them abilities that the humans don’t have, and the Martians are being impatient and obnoxious to the humans. In this novel humans control too much of the Martians life and there is danger in doing that. To begin with the humans are controlling the Martians lives.
In The Martian Chronicles, Ray Bradbury posits that becoming independent is shown as a brave, meaningful choice to take, whether it is for happiness, a worthy cause, or a peaceful life. It is shown that not following the norm and becoming an independent individual can lead to new, enthralling realizations, compelling philosophies, or true happiness. In this science-fiction novel, Bradbury explores this theme recurringly, more specifically in “Silent Towns”, “-And The Moon Be Still As Bright”, and “The Martian”. Written about the future, spanning the years from 1999 to 2026, The Martian Chronicles takes place on both Earth and Mars, telling the tale of the colonization of different planets and the annihilation of all humans on Earth through war. During the process of discovering these planets, human characteristics are prevalent, especially those concerning the great courage of independence and the bravery of individuality.
I read the book Before We Were Free by Julia Alvarez. Anita, an eleven year old girl, is suddenly sent into a very scary and unknown world, right in her own home. Her cousins are running away to the United states, but to get away from what? Her parents are keeping secrets and she tries to get information from her sister, but finds out very little. Anita finds herself struggling when she is forced to grow up very quickly and try not to act as scared as she feels at times. Through the view of a young girl, this story really captures what it’s like to feel like immigration is the only option for a family.

Brown's essential writings deal primarily with the literary portrayal of Afro-Americans. Brown renders in a trend that emerged from many types of folks discourse, a black dialect matrix that features the blues and ballads, the spirituals and work songs. Brown’s final referents are African-American music and mythology. Brown was born in May 1901 and graduated with honors from Dunbar High in 1918. when after he went to Williams college on a scholarship and was the only student awarded Final Honors. From 1922 to 1923 Brown took a masters degree in English at Harvard University.
Kane Brown has had a very rough life. From going to 12 different schools, to getting bullied, to being abused by his own stepfather. (Wikipedia) What would you do if any of these happened to you? Instead of sitting the rest of his life and being depressed about all of the negative things in his life, Kane Brown took all of those negative things and wrote songs about them. For example in his song “Learning” Brown talks about how even though he was abused, and he watched most of his friends become terrible people, or die, he was “learning how to let it go” as he stated in the song. If you’ve had a rough time in life, you will definitely be inspired by Kane Brown and his story.
John Brown was an American abolitionist, born in Connecticut and raised in Ohio. He felt passionately and violently that he must personally fight to end slavery. This greatly increased tension between North and South. Northern mourned him as a martyr and southern believed he got what he deserved and they were appalled by the north's support of Brown. In 1856, in retaliation for the sack of Lawrence, he led the murder of five proslavery men on the banks of the Pottawatomie River. He stated that he was an instrument in the hand of God. On October 16, 1859, he led 21 men on a raid of the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. His plan to arm slaves with the weapons he and his men seized from the arsenal was thwarted, however, by local farmers, militiamen, and Marines led by Robert E. Lee. Within 36 hours of the attack, most of Brown's men had been killed or captured. Brown was hanged on Dec. 2, 1859. He became a martyr for many because of the dignity and sincerity that he displayed during his popular trial. Before he was hanged he gave a speech which was his final address to the court that convicted him. And he was thankful to Bob Butler for letting him send that text in electronic form. In Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown," Hawthorne introduces Goodman Brown, who doubts himself and reiterates his false confidence to himself repeatedly. His struggle between the evil temptations, the devil, and the proper church abiding life, is a struggle he does not think he can handle. This story is about a man who challenges his faith in himself and in the community in which he resides. Goodman Brown must venture on a journey into the local forest, refuse the temptations of the devil, and return to the village before the sunrise.
When reading Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Young Goodman Brown” or Herman Melville’s “Bartleby the Scrivener,” the audience might notice how they are stories of men who become detached from the society after a notable change in how they act towards the world. However, while Bartleby’s disconnection stems from work-related changes, Young Goodman Brown’s disconnection is caused by a “spiritual” experience. I want to focus on how many things these characters have in common, to show what may have caused their change of view in the societies around them.

“August 2002: a night meeting” is a story by Ray Bradbury The story begins by a character named Thomas stopping on the way to a party for gas. He talks to an attendant about living on mars and discusses how living on mars is terrible. He stops again at a martian town that is deserted. At this point a martian ship approaches and its driver Muhe Ca gets out. He states that he is on his way to a festival in a martian city. Muhe Ca is able to talk to the Tomas through telepathic communications, which makes the communication more easy. Tomas offers the martian a drink, but finds that he cannot touch each other or even anything belonging to each other. They are both convinced that the other is a ghost. Muhe Ca does not know of humans landing on mars and is sure that his way of life and people are still alive. They stop arguing and realize that life is worth too much to enjoy to argue. They part ways and resume there respective journeys.
Andy Weir’s The Martian portrays the highly deadly and dangerous life on Mars. Mark Watney is on the planet Mars on a NASA mission with other astronauts, but like any good book, something unexpected happens. Mark is stranded on Mars with no crew and no communication. He’s alone. Well, he has the HAB of course.
Hawthorne’s story, “Young Goodman Brown,” appears to be a story about original sin with a lot of symbolism tied in to make it an allegory. An allegory is a story that can be interpreted in different ways to find the hidden meaning behind the symbolism in the story. The three things focused on throughout the short story is Faith, the forest that Goodman Brown takes his journey through, and the staff, which the old man who leads Goodman Brown on his way carries. The short story, “Young Goodman Brown,” uses several symbols such as: Faith, the forest, and the staff to contribute significantly to the allegory.
Wild Children are like untamed, isolated outcast. Wild children are described as a human child who has lived isolated from human contact from a very young age. Wild children have been around since approximately 1644. Wild children also known as feral children are confined by humans (usually parents), brought up by animals, or lived isolated to alone. There have been over one hundred cases reported of feral children worldwide. In order to understand feral children, one needs knowledge of the significant cases, the scientific opinions, and the children’s behavior.
We can all imagine the stress and hardship that military families go through while their loved one is deployed. The daily fear of the unknown can leave a lot of spouses and children with enormous feelings of stress and anxiety. Two million children under the age of 18 have an active duty parent, and 500,000 of those are under the age of 6. Young children can feel the same anxiety, depression, stress and aggression that older children and adults experience after living with multiple deployments, long separations, and often tense and awkward reunions with parents returning from war. A Lot of research has been done on the effects of deployments on children and spouses and the affects on the younger children are alarming. The concern is that when children are exposed to stressful events, particularly traumatic stressful events will have difficulty dealing with emotions as well as socially and academically (Schulte, 2013).
