Upon the arrival of Jeremy Crowder – SBI, Certified Fire Investigator, K9 Handler & K-9 Hampton a summary of the fire scene was given. A plan was developed for how and where we wanted K-9 Hampton to check for the possibility of accelerants being present. Handler Crowder and K-9 Hampton conducted 3 separate detection surveys of the area for accelerants. Survey #1: During the first run, K-9 Hampton was worked in the area of fire origin (loading dock) and made a hit on a particular pile of debris. The area was marked with (Marker # 1) and photographed. K-9 Hampton then worked down the Division B side of the building (west wall) making a second hit on rocks being used as ground cover on the same west wall on Division B just in from of a broken …show more content…

The survey included the rest of the Division B side (west wall), Division C (north wall) and the Division D (east wall) with no additional hits for accelerants detected. Survey # 2: After K-9 Hampton was given the required break needed and approximately 20-30 minutes later. The first area that was marked with (Marker # 1) that contained 14 pieces of wood, was moved to a clean area that no accelerants where detected during the first survey. These 14 pieces of wood were laid out as demonstrated in the attached photograph and K-9 Hampton conducted a second survey of this debris pile and made a positive hit on 1 particular piece of wood. This piece of wood was photographed and was secured for evidence collection and was collected in a medal can and sealed as evidence # 2. Survey # 3: After K-9 Hampton was given the required break needed and approximately 20-30 minutes later, conducted a third and final detection for accelerants. The area to be checked was the concrete floor under the debris pile at the point of origin after a wash-down of the concrete floor was conducted. K-9 Hampton conducted a survey of the concrete floor at the point of origin and made a positive hit for accelerants. This particular section of floor was secured for evidence collection and was collected in a medal can using a tampon to sample the floor and sealed as evidence #
