Can anyone withstand the truth that here are so many innocent people in the world that justice has not been delivered to? In this world of goodness, beauty, glory and also unfairness, evil, and betrayal, not all are provided with equality; although it is not a simple task to decide, “We the People” shall not stand by and stay absent from the responsibility to fight for the justice and equality of all men and women, for if this fails to, the evils of this very world will take over the humanity of all the people in our country. A good example of this is a book called Of Mice And Men. In that book, there are many references to sexism and racism. Early in the year it was talked about how women were not represented equally in the novel. In the novel it says “ ‘you seen a girl around here?’ he demanded angrily” (Steinbeck 37). This quote shows how the woman was not even respected and not even been called by a name. Women in the novel were just there for the pleasure of men, in the novel. There was also a black man in the novel, which was at least given a name in the novel, unlike the woman. This does not mean that racism was not a thing though. He was also given less ability in the novel, and made to seem less important. These are signs of racism and sexism in the book, which evidently show how slaves and women were not given equality and justice. They need to be represented the same with all the people in the novel to have complete justice. The things that happen in Of Mice And Men also show things that have happened in the world’s history and what is still happening at some extent and in some places. In addition to racism and sexism, one modern world example of people’s rights being taken away is North Korea. They have their natural rights to life, liberty, and property constantly taken away in North Korea, and what is horrible is that most of them are not even conscious of this. They also do not have the freedom that they deserve, and this will not stop until something is done about
However, the hardships and misfortunes of other groups of women due to race, religion, sexual orientation, etc are not often mentioned because feminism has a widespread message and definition worldwide. In the United States, black women or any women with darker skin complexions were treated inhumanely and did not, also still today did not benefit from white privilege. As explained, referring back to the era of slavery up until the American Revolution black enslaved women were mistreated due to the color of their skin and they were without a voice because of their lack of power in a society where man had more power over women and blacks were overpowered by those with lighter skin. His excellent quote shows one that mercy killing can help a person stop suffering with a prolonged death.In Stienbecks novella Of Mice And Men Lennie falls victim to his impulses and makes himself suffer and George suffer the concequences. This faulty logic manifests itself early, when the new judge in town allows Pap to keep custody of Huck. "The law backs that Judge Thatcher up and helps him to keep me out o' my property." The judge privileges Pap's "rights" to his son over Huck's welfare. John Steinbeck was inspired by the line "The best schemes o' mice an' men [often go awry]" by Robert Burns in one of his poems. This line refers to ambitions that went off track during the process. There are multiple examples in the novel that refers to the line in the poem, that inspired John Steinbeck. For example, in India many girls are being deprived from equal rights. In these societies, women are treated unequally and are blamed for any sexual advances thrown at them. In Rachel William’s article, “ Why girls in India are still missing out on the education they need”, the author states that women attempt to keep anyone from knowing that they are being harassed from the opposite sex so that they cannot be blamed for the men’s action. And, it is appalling to see that the ones that are penalized are not the men that are harassing the young girls, but the victims themselves. When you’re in a position of high authority, it comes with a great sum of power. Having a great deal of control can corrupt and can lead to the abuse of it. Abuse of power is using their power for their own benefit even if it may harm others. In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the effects of the abuse shown by Curley and Curley’s wife to the other characters will ultimately lead to a tragic end.
Discrimination was one of the issues that caused conflict in the novel “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. One example of discrimination in the novel comes in the form of racial discrimination against Crooks, as he is an African American. Another example of discrimination is gender discrimination against Curley’s wife. Finally, there is discrimination against mentally disabled people, which is evident in Lennie’s character. The ranch hands' actions and conversations demonstrated the racial discrimination against Crooks for his skin colour, gender discrimination against Curley’s wife for her gender, and prejudice against Lennie, who was mentally disabled individual. This prevented the characters from reaching their full potential and causes tragedy.

Curley, a man with an intimidating complexion, forces many, including his flirtatious wife, to succumb to his power. However, he fails to recognize his wife’s rising empowerment as she manipulates men around him into becoming her pawns. John Steinbeck’s usage of Curley’s wife in the novel Of Mice and Men delineates the desire of women to eliminate the over dominance of men through deceit in exchange for their own power.

The theme of power in prevalent in John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice And Men’ and is presented and developed in many different ways. Power is first established in the title, which introduces the recurring wrath of fate implying that men, like beast, are helplessly fated to live a disempowered and isolated life. Some however seek comfort in their powerful dreams, and companionship in their romanticised fraternal bonds, most notably that of Lennie and George, whose unconditional love for another leaves the reader with questions regarding their own morality. Steinbeck’s powerful prose, a strong single plot line over a short time span drives the tragic events forward, and his depiction of the foreshadowing natural world gives the novella a certain aspect of duality.
The oppression and domination is a big issue that we still see today. The oppression is not always easy to spot, nor is it always intended, but it is still there. It is true that enormous progress has been made to end this issue, but there is still work to be done. The domination and oppression of minorities is present in our daily lives through xenophobia, our legal system and the use of different forms of racism. Like in the novel the ''The Color Purple'' the characters do not beat racism but they do understand that the colour of their skin, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation does not affect their worth.
