John Acton once stated, "All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." What happens when power is corrupted? To answer this question you have to comprehend the definition of power: the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. When power is misused the leader's plans were aiming for their own personal convenience. What is absolute power? Its the same as power except the person's morality decreases while their power rises. Although those in power can manipulate people into doing what they want and they can be powerful and successful, however, their power lasts for a limited amount of time and the leader usually ends up falling from power. First and foremost, in the Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespear, most might believe that Julius Caesar was the one in power, but in reality, it was Brutus. Brutus claims that he killed Caesar because he loved Rome more than to let it suffer from slavery and dictatorship. He claims that Caesar was too ambitious, therefore, it leads him to make every Roman his slave. If there be any in this assembly, any dear friend of Caesar’s, to him I say that Brutus' love to Caesar was no less than his. The city of Rome agreed with Brutus because they all knew that Brutus was an honorable man and he was doing it for Rome,”Live, Brutus! Live, live!”(3-1) . To add on, despite if the leader was morally incorrect or not, all power comes to a fall. The city of Rome was loyal to Brutus, but they were more loyal to Caesar, therefore they teamed up with Antony to bring Brutus down.
