Adults use slang less, but sometimes they use it in some very informal situations. For example chatting with family members or close friends. At that time, slang terms can be efficient way to express their ideas and concepts. And it does their communication more efficient, and also it reinforces their relationship. Slang spreads on the internet very widely through social media networks. Social media networks like Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat show to us how many people are using slang. They use it to shorten their sentences or to evoke a special meaning. Because of social media, words are moving around the world within weeks and months, whereas before, it could take a few years, says Julie Coleman, author of The Life of Slang.
The current decade’s slang is very important to the teen culture. Teens often use slang to speak only to one another and not to adults as said in the following article, “Every generation has its slang — new words that allow kids to communicate without their parents understanding”(53 Slang… 1). Kids will use slang terms to communicate without adults being able to comprehend what exactly kids are saying, it is basically a secret code. Since the 1930’s slang has evolved in countless ways. These words will constantly be changing, even within the same decade as said in this Huffington Post article, “words change all the time and overtime”(“These 12…” 1). Words within the English language can constantly have little tweaks added to them; sometimes this will create an entire new word. Slang terms can change throughout decades and era’s rapidly even though it is within a short time span, and this article supports the fact that words do not need decades to change it can take as little time as a few
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” Love is a complex idea that can turn hate into love. Enemies can become friends because love can change the feelings of how one views another person. Romeo and Juliet become lovers even though their families are enemies and hatred is turned into love. In Romeo & Juliet, Shakespeare agrees with the idea of love shown in “Love’s Vocabulary” by Diane Ackerman, “A Handbook for Love” by Barry Newton, and I Corinthians 13:4-8a. Shakespeare’s idea of love is similar because he writes about love that has may emotions and many cause a strong sensual passion and is not easily angered.

This slang was taken from black language and now everyone uses to make the communication short. In the essay Mother Tongue Tan explains that how language could affect people from different culture. Tan states that how Asian students in America struggle in English. Tan also states that her mother is smart but she couldn’t communicate in English. Tan thinks that’s a big disadvantage for her mother and people coming from different countries cannot show their talent because of their weakness in communication.

So I decide to look deeper into the language of the subculture. What I found was a language that was so divergent to anything else I have heard before. The language of hip hop was almost backwards from the English language. I found that words were interchangeable with other words, for the soul purpose of making them mean other things. For example the word dope could actually mean something cool or awesome, but in the literal sense the word dope actually refers to drugs (Baldwin, James). When first researching this I wasn’t surprised at all because I too use this form of language amongst my friends. I also found that within hip hop culture, people do have the tendency to use explicit language as well, for instance the use of the “F” word is very common but not with everyone in the subculture. The style of rapping is different with each individual and is looked at as something that identifies you in the

American Standard English has many slang words and phrases that have developed over the last century.

Everyone has a word or phrase that purely defines who they are, how they speak or the way they act. In this case, the slang word that defines me most is LOLOL. Almost everyone in American knows the slang word as “LOL,” which stands for laughing out loud. LOLOL means the exact same thing as the slang word “LOL” but it represents a continuation of someone or multiple people “lots of laughing out
The use of slang enables the speaker to reinforce group membership and belonging. Slang is often ephemeral in nature; it constantly evolves to suit each generation of users. It is thus harder to understand and follow for an older audience, and can be used exclusively to define group boundaries, simultaneously reinforcing solidarity between members that do belong to the group. There is the use of coalescence “waddup?” and “gotta” making speech less formal and eases conversation flow between speakers. Dysphemisms are also common, where the user might do so to appear cool, as with “oh shit!” or “bitch”. Pop-culture references are common to slang. They allow members to bond of shared or common interests and knowledge, reinforcing group solidarity, such as “winner winner chicken dinner” or “giggidy giggidy”. Blends- the combining of two lexemes- are used, as in “guestimate” or “chillax”, allowing the user to appear imaginative and clever as these soon become outdated and new ones are invented to take their place. There is a proliferation of discourse particles in slang, which enables conversation flow as well as making the conversation more relaxed, such as “like”, “yeah...
