The year is 1942. A small boy is hauling buckets of water for a road gang. No one knew it at that time, but Johnny Cash would someday be one of the most instrumental country singers know to the world. That boy, raised on a farm with almost no money in his family, fought his way up to a becoming a legend. From inspiring a generation with his music, to fighting for native american rights, johnny cash deserves to be remembered. Cash was born February 26, 1932, in Kingsland, Arkansas(bio.com). He was son of a family of poor farmers who found escape in music. His early life was tough, from being of a poor family, to losing his older brother in a farm accident when he was just 14. He and his other three friends played mostly gospel music. To this Phillips said, “go home and sin, then come back with a song I can sell” (SunRecords.com). Cash came back, and eventually won him over with two of hit songs, “Hey Porter” and “Cry Cry Cry,”. Cash deserves recognition for the amazing work in these songs, along with his determination to keep going, and get a record deal. The 1960’s seemed like a good time for cash. Records were selling, and he was performing all over the country. But under it all, Cash started a decline. He had a drinking problem, and was deep in drugs. He was arrested several times, and his wife of many years left him. Then, finally in 1967 he met June Carter, and by 1968, she married cash. With her help, he soon ditched his drug and alcohol problems, and did what most celebrities failed to do, clean up. Cash should not be remembered for his struggles with drugs, but that he was able to overcome his drug issues and live his life.

Important civil rights movement leader During the 1960s there were many civil right movement activists such as Cesar Chavez. Cesar Chavez was born on March 31st in the North Gila River Valley outside Yuma. During his years, Chavez has accomplished many things that have changed farm laborers for the better. When he was young, his family lost their farm due to the Great Depression and they became migrant workers. They had to move to several different places so that they could find work, which meant that every time they moved, Chavez had to change schools.

Being born one of seven children, he always had someone to hangout with. During the mid sixties, Johnny became very addicted to drugs, and alcohol. As the author, Bill Miller states, Cash’s reason for his behavior was that he had to keep up with the “hectic world”. The life he lived was definitely was not the easiest but he tried to make the best of it.

Hank Williams Sr. had a huge impact on country music; he literally made country music what it is today. Hank grew up fast; he started in a small band with his pals. Hank later quit high school for his thought out career. He was very sure he could make fame; he started singing in small joints and coffee shops, where everybody absolutely loved him. Later, after his small gigs, he had been introduced to the radio, which was a huge deal. Making it out aright, Hank never had a lot of support. His father was a poor farmer who moved the family several times while Johnny Cash was a child. This made for a lot of instability in his younger years. His father farmed and when the farms were not doing so well in the beginning of the 30’s his father packed his family up and moved them to Dyess County in northeastern Arkansas. There was government assistance there to be had. The government provided Johnny’s family with a house, barn and some farm land. This was so that their family could raise cotton. Elvis Presley was a well-known man and loved by many people. He came into and era (1950s) where the devastations of the great depression and world wars were over. People were now starting to have some freedom and enjoy the thing they loved which was listening to music and living life to the fullest. The social change that the 50s brought reflected music significantly, and Elvis Presley arose.. Kids were now starting to rebel against their parents and they had a lot of extra money to spend on records because of prosperity. During the Wars, money was limited and kids and adults had to work extra hard and save for survival purposes, but once the war-ended money could be used for pleasure reasons rather than just for survival. In addition, in the 50s our country had it’s own war, and I’m not talking about the World Wars, but yet human inequality. The civil rights movement was one of the biggest social changes in history and was a time where a lot of great artist prevailed and made songs on the issue. Elvis Presley showed just how social changes could influence or reflect the history of rock “n” roll. Presley started a culture, his hairstyle, the way he dressed all became part of the youth around the country. As I said our country was fighting its own war with segregation, Elvis music help bring people together. His music not on appealed white crowds, but black crowds listened to him as well. He brought people together through music, and proved to the world that he could be successful. He was one of the artist that mastered crossover, bringing every color to liking his music.
