The first major event that takes place was Johnny burning his hand. This causes Johnny to fall for months and lose his confidence. Then Johnny is saved by meeting Rab. Rab saves Johnny from being who he is forever, Rab teaches Johnny to be a good person and to become a hard worker. After Johnny meets Rab, Johnny begins to work for the Boston Observer. This makes Johnny more confident and gives Johnny hope. It also makes Johnny feel like he has worth, and it is the foundation for all Rab does with Johnny. Rab makes Johnny self reflect, and Rab is the one who saved Johnny, because Rab is such a steady person. In the novel Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes, Johnny Tremain, a fourteen-year-old boy gifted in craftsmanship, experiences changes in all aspects of his life. From a crippled hand to fighting against the British for his country's independence, war transforms Johnny Tremain from a selfish child into a patriotic hero. (pg. 126) As Johnny Tremain progressed through the book, Johnny Tremain, he experienced major changes in his personality, demeanor, and thoughts. These changes all led back to one major event in the young boy’s life, when Johnny burnt his hand, crippling it in the process. Johnny Tremain was a young apprentice for his master, Mr. Lapham, a silversmith. Because of the apprentices’ newly crippled hand, he had to learn to have a different outlook on life; therefore, changing him into a better person. As Johnny Tremain traveled throughout his life, he was changed from a boy to a man; he was no longer proud, callous, and temperamental - the signs of a boy - but instead he was humble, caring, and placid - true signs of a man.
He wants to get revenge against the Confederate soldiers and this motivates him to join the Union army. He is inspired when he sees a military parade and a friend of his brother, or so he believe in the power of the mind. That would be a perfect solution to his problems. at home and a way to punish those responsible for his brother’s death. He had admired Johnny greatly and felt the only answer was to sneak into the army.
The death of Willie Starks and the circumstances force Jack to rethink the way he thinks. He rethinks a belief that no one can ever be responsible for the evil actions of another individual over time. In a way Jack feels responsible for Willie’s death. Jack eventually marries Anne Stanton and he feels orthodox about his decision to marry her. Jack restarts his long lost hobby of working on a book about Cass Mastern.
The climax of the story begins when Leland’s client, Taylor Wilson called and asked to have an emergency meeting. After Leland’s secretary scheduled the meeting and Taylor made it to the office, he began to tell Leland what was going on. At the same time Yolanda was in New York handling some business and also visiting John, her new guy friend. One day she went to John’s apartment on surprise and got a bigger surprise than she expected. While back in Chicago, Taylor was still talking with Leland about the man he saw that he had met back in the days when he was a family court judge. They had an affair and caused him to divorce his wife and leave his kids and career. Taylor told Leland about the man’s gray eyes which made Leland think about Yolanda’s new guy friend.
In the book Johnny Tremain one theme that the reader will notice comes up a lot is the relationship in between the characters of the book. The first one that the reader might realize pops up a lot in the beginning is the relationship in between Johnny and Cilla. Their relationship is close a the beginning because Johnny was supposed to be this great silversmith when he grew up and Cilla was supposed to marry him. But after his accident Johnny's entire career was ruined then Mr.Tweedie arrived and Mrs.Lapham said that until he left the marriage was not going to happen.
In the second instance, Jake had once again saved Johnny’s life by being persistent in not letting Johnny stay by himself after dropping him at home from school. Jake repeatedly insists that Johnny invites him in and even goes to great lengths by stalling Johnny and telling him that he also likes video games. This act saved Johnny’s life in two ways, as one, it resulted in him having a friend whom he could lean on for emotional support and two, it physically stopped him from making any attempts to suicide or to cause himself harm by cutting his wrists.
In the last chapter Jody and Janie got into a huge fight in the store which consisted of many verbal and physical attacks. In chapter 8 after the fight Jody moves into another room into the house. During this time Jody’s health begins to deteriorate along with their relationship, they stop talking altogether and Jody stops eating the food she cooks. Janie then decides that Jody needs to see a real doctor, instead of the ones that he was seeing who offered “miracle cures”, so she sent one from Orlando. After assessing Jody he determines that his kidneys had stopped working and that he was dying. After learning of his fate, Janie decides that she wants to see Jody one last time, when she goes to talk to him they get into one last argument

Throughout the book Johnny reflects the theme of the story in his actions, which is something he is taught from a young age, to respect others, but mainly the elders, he was made fun of by other kids for being “weak”. They thought he was weak because he respected the elders and cared for them instead of going and getting stronger all the time. Because of this he ends up gaining advantages and being wiser himself.
In the book, A first wakes up in a guy named Justin. This is simply another day like the rest, until he meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. Instead of going through the motions of Justin’s typical life, A is compelled to break the rules and take Rhiannon out to the beach.
