The best authors make an impact on their readers, and John Green is defiantly one of those types of authors. John Green is a New York Times bestselling author. With four books currently published, and a movie coming out in June, he has slowly become one of the most known authors within teenagers today. Aside from being an author, John and his brother created a YouTube channel called vlogbrothers which has recently reached over a million subscribers. He’s also traveled all over the world finding things to write his award winning novels about. John Green is a positive influence for teens because of the topics his books cover, his communication towards teens and how he presents a visual to things some people may not be aware of.
John’s books cover very intense topics, and that’s what draws people to them. His first book ever published, Looking for Alaska, was extremely dark and touched on the topics of religion, drug use, and the main character is assumed to have committed suicide. That was in fact only his second most popular book. The book he is most known for is The Fault in Our Stars. This book is much lighter but at the same time just as intense. It’s about two teens living with cancer and falling in love. His other books also do a good job of pointing out topics that most people don’t think of. Like most teens don’t usually read books about kids with cancer or how two gay guys fall in love its revolutionary things to write about, and put a positive spin on things that can be so overwhelmingly sad. He almost shows how to go on in life when everything falls apart or goes wrong and all teens should be exposed to it.
Another great thing about Green’s work is his communication towards his readers. He does write young adult books so most of his audience is teens and it shows in the way he writes. All of his books are told from the point of view of either a boy or girl under the age of 19 and is told from their mindset. Their thoughts and feelings are so relatable and received which is important because reading as a teen leaves a bigger impression. Even he knows this, in an interview he said, “Teenagers have more intense reading experiences because they've had fewer of them.
