Joan Jett also known as Joan Marie Larkin has a passion for music that she discovered early on. She earned a guitar when she was 14 years old and and formed her first band, the Runaways when she was only 15. She produced songs like “ I Love Rock n Roll “ and clearly she does love rock and roll because she has been making music for 40 years. She says “ Music is what gets me off “ and she wanted to keep making music because she says if anything music doesn't make us feel alone. It wasn't long before she became the lead singer in the Runaways. It only inspired her to do more. Jett wasn't the ideal woman with the ideal music at the time. One year later she was able to put a band together at the age of only 15. But she wasn't going to make it big living in Philly. Joan moved to southern sunny California. She spent her time at a bar called Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco. The bar had gigs “ Rock Star of the Day” it inspired Joan. Joan wasn't the ideal woman in the music industry. And her music and appearance didn't appeal to record labels. That was when she decided she really wanted her career to do more than it had done already, and she wanted to prove that a woman could do what a man could do, by doing this she was not following womans rules and she got signed. Runaways, there music played off of the usual music listened to in that era. Everybody was into disco music at the time. The public eye was confused and not very accepting with what the lyrics were about, the ages, and the clothing. Not only were they 5 teenage girls playing rock, wearing skin tight black and singing about adult measures. They weren't exactly “ in “ at the moment. But when the song I Love Rock n Roll came out it in 1976 became number 1 and the most listened too. The song turned people to their music and the band name blew up, but it wasn't enough to beat king
