Forensic anthropology was crucial to the Jeffrey Dahmer’s case. It give the families of the victim somewhat of a closure, to know what happened to their loved one. Jeffrey left enough evidence in his apartment to help forensic anthropologists determine the identity of the victims. In the book Skulls and Skeletons: Human Bone Collections and Accumulations, it states “When police searched the Milwaukee apartment of Jeffrey Dahmer (d.1994) they found seven skulls; two on the top shelf of a closet, two more in a computer box, and three others in the top drawer of a filing cabinet that also contained an assortment of bones in the bottom drawer.” Dahmer dissolved the flesh in acid and cleaned the skulls by boiling them. He claimed that they would never find his remains because he got rid of them so thoroughly. However, when investigators found the remains, they couldn’t find the identity yet since Dahmer supplied them with only his first name. It tooks nearly a month for Dr. Robert Mann to undo the damage of the bones. He assumed the victim was a seventeen to twenty year old male due to the fact that the bone caps were loose. The bones were in a dry condition with no odor and lack of bone grease therefore, he knew the person had been dead for a couple of years.
