Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born January 31st in Cairo, Georgia in 1919. He was given his middle name in honor of the president Theodore Roosevelt. Jackie had four other brothers and sisters. His father left them in 1920 which then they moved to Pasadena California. In 1935 Jackie graduated from Washington Junior High School and then enrolled into John Muir High school or Muir Tech. Seeing his talents Jackie's older brother Matthew who won a silver medal in the 200-meter dash just behind Jessie Owens at the 1936 Olympic games was the one who pushed him to get involved in sports. At Muir Tech Robinson lettered in many varsity sports. Some of the sports consist of Basketball, Track, Football, and of course Baseball. He played shortstop and catcher in baseball then in football he played quarterback and guard on the basketball team. In 1936 he won the junior boys singles championships in the annual Pacific Coast Negro Tennis Tournament and Earned a place on the Pomona annual baseball tournament all star team.
