Gun Control: Is It Beneficial? In the increasingly liberal society that we live in today, gun control is becoming more and more of an issue. Colleges are having to enforce to gun laws that weren’t even thought of in the past 10 years. In June of 2015, East Tennessee State University revised their firearm policy to create a safer and more educational learning environment. In a situation much like the one at ETSU, this policy is much needed. On the contrary, there are some small things about gun control that could cause large problems later on. While gun control on college campuses may be a valid precaution, enforcing these rules in other places may lead to larger problems in the future. In the past few years America has fallen away from this standard; creating an environment that sprouts lackadaisical people that truly believe they are entitled to their own check every month without working for it. This kind of people is the type that creates contention within our working society. With nothing better to do, they sit around and watch our beautiful country fall to the wayside. While there are so many like these people, there are also thousands more to counteract this movement. In order to create an equal country, it is important to consider every side of the argument in a respectful manner. Which is difficult to execute, especially because there are so many different viewpoints that take part in our countries values.
Unfortunately, gun control has become a huge issue recently. It is a battle between those who fear the power and stronghold that guns have on our country and those who exercise our second amendment right daily. For some, these events point to a need to ease existing firearm regulations and allow concealed weapons on campuses. Others see the solution in tightening restrictions to keep guns off campuses. (in text cite)
These two opposing viewpoints have very good evidence supporting on both sides, creating a difficult environment for a respectful argument to take place. Concealed carry weapons should be allowed onto college campuses, to provide protection against those who have the intent to harm others. There are some specified occasions where concealed carry weapons are not allowed. For example, if the state’s court of appeals rules against the possession of concealed firearms on campus, then the college has no say as to whether or not they would like to provide that opportunity to their staff or students.
