Dubai has went from being your average typical regional city, to becoming a globally know city in such a short amount of time. From conducting my research I have learned that some call it “Manhattan-on-speed”, “A skyline on crack”, or even “A capitalists dream on steroids.” Dubai has become a primary destination for Multinational Corporations, causing migrant workers from all around the world to flee here. Majority of these workers come from South Asian countries, however some come from others as well. In Dubai, nothing is done without a statement. If you were to just walk outside and look up at all the different architectural designs on the buildings you would be able to see that.

Dubai has long been known as the trading capital of the Middle East. However, trading isn’t the only profitable and growing industry in Dubai at the moment. Tourism, banking (UAE’s banking system well thought out and sophisticated), transportation, technology, and many others have all seen huge jumps in growth and profit over the years. Rapid growth and profits can be contributed to Dubai’s great infrastructure, and open and liberal economic policies. The first tier is Nurseries. Nurseries are the equivalent to daycares here and kids are taught Basic English. The second tier is Kindergarten. Kids here will learn English and Arabic, as well as their respective religion. The third tier is Primary. Primary school lasts six years and can consists of a variety of different curriculums. Different curriculums have different school policies, such as start times and uniforms. Most primary schools in Dubai teach English, however many others teach foreign languages such as Russian, Arabic, and Hindi. The fourth and final tier is Secondary. This is the equivalent to high school for us. The syllabi’s here range from American to Indian. You are required to spend three years in secondary school. Both primary and secondary education are given for no cost to every citizen of the United Arab

Now there is quite a number of private fee-paying primary and secondary schools, some universities have fee-paying departments. All British children must stay at school from the age of 5 until they are 16. Many of them stay longer and take final examination when they are 17 or 18. Before 1965 all children had to go through special intelligence tests. There were different types of state secondary schools and at the age of 11 children went to different schools in accordance of with the results of the tests.
Mohammad Wael, head of Obaidulla contracting, gave up some of his free time to answer a couple of my question. He stated that it has been hard in the last couple of years for engineers in general. The work load they have been receiving was much lower than what engineers are accustomed to, but because of the Expo 2020 that has changed. Because of the Expo, new hotels, houses, roads, and anything an engineer is responsible for are going to be built. The only disadvantage he could think of is that since there will be many new houses and hotels, and since they are being built for visitors, after the end of the Expo, there will not be enough people to occupy all these houses. It is true that there will be large amount of people moving to live in Dubai, but the numbers will not be equivalent to the amount of visitors.

The educational system in Egypt is very interesting. Only some children start at pre-school from the ages four to six, it is only offered through private sectors and is not free. Students then go through what is known as basic education, and is split into two sections. Burj khalifa is known to be the world’s tallest building in the world. The development and the construction of the Burj Khalifa project began in the year 2004 and the external part was completed in the year 2009. The building is generally made up of concrete because it is a strong and lasting material that can withstand all types of weather conditions. The building is established in city of Dubai and was opened in the year 2010 and renowned as Downtown Dubai. The project was purposely developed by the government so that they could expand their investment and diversify its efforts on oil producing economy. We decided that we would head out and explore what Dubai had to offer to us. We went to have breakfast and decided to go take a city bus tour. On our way there we decided to walk around and just take in the image we were seeing. The sun was shining in the sky, the wind was blowing its natural AC, no cars were honking, and it was just utterly peaceful. Continuing walking, we stumbled upon one of its famous malls. This mall was completely different than the one back home. One of the biggest malls that I have ever seen. This mall was three stories tall, with a movie theater with movies that haven’t come out yet in the U.S. An aquarium filled with different fish, crabs, sea horses, stingrays, and even sharks. This mall, even had a lower level as well with more stores and even a ski lounge right in the middle.
The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) has been one of the most economically developed economies in the Middle East. Its levels of development have far exceeded everyone’s expectations especially in the fields of Tourism, Investment, and Real Estate. As a result, the UAE became one of the wealthiest countries in the Middle East scoring “3rd Under GDP per capita” (Middle East: GDP per Capita, n.d) . The UAE has a population of over 9 million Residents which “88% is made up of expats”( Expats make up over 88% of UAE population,2011).Yet, the country still tries to maintain its National identity and culture for further years to come.
