Internet Addiction

Internet addiction as though chemical addictions, is defined as non-chemical addictions or with a more familiar term known as behavioral addictions. It is a continuous disease in a long run and has become an issue to the Internet users [8]. Internet addiction has become a serious public health concern in many countries and it will be considered as a cause of mental disorder in the upcoming revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder 5th Edition (DSM-V) [9]. A common belief arouse whereby addictive tendencies will cause imbalance to one’s life performance especially to the adolescents that were exposed to the technologies in the early stage. In the last couple of years, researchers studied the Internet addiction from various perspectives through the respondents’ feedback; they had diagnosed and correlated the subject and other issues from various perspectives such as psychological concern, academic concern, performance concern and so forth. Thus, different approaches to the study of the Internet use have been carried out to identify the Internet addiction and other concerns to the addictive behavior.

It has been alleged that younger generations are more susceptible to the problematic use of the Internet. Survey studies had been conducted by Deng and Xuan [7] and Li et al. [2] to the undergraduates of colleges and universities. Both researchers had adopted Internet Addiction Test (IAT) [10] as a measure scale to examine the level of addictive behavior. Apart from the IAT, other correlated factors were introduced to support their findings.
