My strategies for interacting with people who are of a different background or those who come from an unfamiliar situation to my own is to try and understand to the best of my abilities how that individual person is trying to adapt to their new surroundings as well as learn their personal goals. By learning these different aspects of individuals, I find it will be much easier to interact with others in a positive way than insist on sharing all of my personal beliefs. I think the best way to approach the initial interactions with people is to listen what they have to say, and to be cordial and inclusive while still observing. Growing up with a bicultural identity, it was difficult for me to get accustomed to different cultures. I was born in the capital city of Ethiopia from an Egyptian mother and an Ethiopian father. In today’s society, many individuals have trouble accepting people whose views differ from theirs. Unfortunately, many outsiders and foreigners find it rather difficult to interact with individuals who do not share similar cultural or religious beliefs. As a Bengali-American born and raised in the predominantly Hispanic community of Laredo, Texas, I have experienced different views and customs entirely different from those of my culture. From the moment a child takes her first breath, she starts communicating with everyone around her; although she can’t speak yet, she can communicate through facial expressions, voice noises, pitch, and tone. Everyone around her can tell if she is happy, sad, or angry just by the actions and face expressions she uses. This small set of communication skills will continue to develop as the child grows older.

It would be wise not to judge point of view of other cultures as erratic. As I have learned during my stay in Taiwan when it comes to different points of view, especially in an environment surrounded by people from many nations, the best advice I can give is to keep yourself being open minded. Try to understand the opinion of the other person, not only from your point of view but from their culture as well.
Though sad to hear, this is not the first time I have heard the story of individuals who undergo the process of reevaluating their perspectives and are still unsuccessful at properly integrating themselves into social communities. Reading Yen Espiritu’s Positively No Filipinos Allowed exposed me to the micro-aggressions minority populations are forced to bare simply based on the fact they originate from a different place and were raised in a different lifestyle. By definition, a community is a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society. Therefore, it makes sense for immigrants to first find communities comprised of members with backgrounds and upbringings similar to theirs’ in new locations like San Diego, in hopes of facilitating the process of adjusting to a new life in a new country. Espiritu mentions the struggle involved with assimilating when quoting “Dario Villa 'found comfort in the company of Mexicans, other FOBs, open-minded Filipinos, and others who accepted me unconditionally’” (Espiritu 3:22). Every group of people or country has their own issues that can impact its cultural beliefs, values, and attitudes. If a person has not had to face oppression, understanding how to relate to another person can be challenging. A person’s positions will impact his or her interests toward resolving issues. The expectations about others will affect everyday relationships. We all make mistakes, but minimizing conclusions and stereotypes will help to gain the trust of the other person.
Meeting new people can be awkward. It doesn 't matter why you are meeting, you have to be able to keep a conversation going if you want things to go smoothly and leave the meeting feeling good. Moreover, if you want the person to really remember you, then you have to pick a topic that is going to stick out in their mind for a long time to come.
What do you think the best way to adopt a new environment that has a different culture for a foreigner? …………. Well, I think it’s to develop social relationships with members of the new culture, and in order to have a better communication with them, it’s not enough just speak their language fluent, but we also have to know the personality of the country and the way that people talking. Today I want to share some of my culture shock experiences with you, and I hope those experiences can help you to have a little closer look of the personality of Americans and the way that people talking.
Kim’s (2001) integrative theory of communication and cross cultural adaptation is based on the premise that an individual moves in as a temporary resident in a new and culturally unfamiliar environment and a transformation process occurs. This theory is suggesting that individuals search for some sort of stability in a new environment. It is said that individuals look for stability so that they can reduce the uncertainty of the environment and the anxiety that they may have in the new culturally unfamiliar environment. Cross cultural adaptation can occur when interacting with members of a host country. Kim’s (2001) theory defines cross cultural adaptation as “the dynamic process in which individuals, upon relocating to a new, unfamiliar, or changed cultural environments, establish or re-establish and maintain relatively stable, reciprocal, and functional relationships with those environments” (p. 31).
