Thesis- By the end of the class you will know what the different kinds of dreams are. I. Intro: My name is Marwa Abdein and today I’m going to talk about dreaming and the different types of dreams. Every one of us dreams even if we might forget the dream. We spend more than two hours a night dreaming, yet scientists do not know much about how or why we dream. II. Main Points: a. Different types of dreams 1. Maladaptive Day Dreaming: This is a disorder where people spend about 60 percent of their waking life in a self-designed imaginary world. This condition causes intense daydreaming that distracts a person from their real life. Maladaptive daydreaming is often misdiagnosed as schizophrenia. It can interfere with your daily life. Recurring Dreams: They are experienced frequently in one’s life especially when a person experiences stress or change. Recurrent dreams occur in between 60% and 75% of adults. The common themes include: being attacked or chased, falling, being stuck, being late, missing or failing an exam, and even losing control of a car. Even if recurrent dreams stop for a certain time, they may return again during a new period of stress. b. Sleep Walking 1. Is also called “somnambulism” 2. Is much more common in children than adults and is more likely to occur if a person is sleep deprived 3. May be difficult to awaken and will probably not remember the sleepwalking incident. 4. Symptoms are sitting up in bed and looking around, walking around the room or house, to leaving the house and even driving long distances. 5. It can be quite dangerous not to wake a sleepwalker. 6. Between 1% and 15% people sleepwalk c. Sleep Paralysis 1. Causes you not to speak, move your arms and legs, body, and head. 2. You are still able to breathe normally. You are also fully aware of what is happening. 3. Can last for seconds or minutes. 4. Very much like normal sleep paralysis, a demon can feel like it’s pressing down on your chest or choking
