Insects are the dominant species on earth .They constitute 80% of the species present on

earth. They have many beneficial uses from which not only the humans but also the

ecosystem benefits .My assignment here is on the impact of ants on the ecosystem .Ants

belong to:

Kingdom – Animalia.

Phylum – Arthropoda.

Class – Insecta.

Order – Hymenoptera.

Ants are social insects living in colonies comprised of one or a few queens and many

workers. There are different species of ants like black, earth-tone reds , pale tans and the

basic browns. Their impacts can be divided into two categories :1)Positive and 2)Negative

Ants through their role as ecosystem engineers and nutrient cyclers essentially

contribute towards not only the ecosystem but also towards mankind. It is the result of

their activities within the soil that nutrient keep on recycling from the dead remains of

animals and plants which always find their way back to the soil as nutrients which

grow up as crops and again the same cycle continues.…

NEGATIVE IMPACTS

But apart from this ants also have negative impacts on the ecosystem . Ants can also

prove to be pests for nature for example, leaf-cutter ants, which grow fungi gardens for food,

also strip massive amounts of leaves and flowers. They haul the vegetation to their nests and

pulverize it into a paste, which they feed to fungi that grows like mold on bread. Ants also
