The 1920’s have become known for the illegal activities from the Prohibition and a time of great scandal. Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby, highlights many of the immoral motifs of the decade. He tells the tale of rags to riches through Jay Gatsby, who longs to revive a previous relationship. The theme he develops most throughout the storyline is living in the past inevitably ends calamity. When Gatsby first met Daisy, he was exceptionally poor, which caused many problems in their fragile relationship five years ago.
