The World That Dislikes Immigration In today’s society, people believe that immigration is a great issue. American people try to accuse them of something that they may or may not of done. Americans tear immigrant families apart that have done nothing wrong and been here for years. These problems today relate to the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller. In the play, girls accuse innocent people of being witches to free their name of witchcraft. Immigrants are being accused of several different reasons to get them out of the country, the question is, when will it stop? Immigration has been a great part in America’s history since the 1880’s to 1920 and also the first part of the 19th century. Many immigrants came to America seeking greater economic opportunity, others, such as Pilgrims came in the early 1600’s in the search for religious freedom (History.com Staff, par 1). Immigrants are taking the jobs that Americans do not want, but Americans want the immigrants to leave the country. Donald Trump says, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. Our project related the topic of immigration to the play through a reenactment of a scene. The scene that we chose was when Reverend Hale went to question the Proctors about their Christianity and to see if they gave any signs of being witches. In our project we had legal immigrants being accused of being illegal. As in the play, Cheever finds a puppet, in our modern version of the play, he finds a bag of drugs that Elizabeth was using for her headaches. In addition to the drugs, another significant fact that was demonstrated in our play was their visa renewal papers were not sent in. Today that is one of the main reasons why legal immigrants get sent back home.
