Sunday August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King JR presented his I have a dream speech. Over 200,000 people gathered to hear words that would change history as we know it today. We can’t fully appreciate how he delivered the speech without noticing the setting. His body language, verbal communication, and his flow of words. The location chosen for the speech wasn’t by chance. In the 19th century President Abraham Lincoln had a similar dream. He fought diligently to outlaw slavery. In 1863 he signed the Emancipation Proclamation and by 1865 slavery was finally outlawed. Thus, making The Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C the perfect place for the Dr. King speech.
