I have been hunting deer since I was sixteen. So I haven’t done it very long but I have learned a lot from it. Patience is key when I sit out there for hours on end in the -10 degree whether. Making that perfect shot with the nervous shaking and my numb fingers. Gutting the deer without disturbing the meat. Finally, grinding the meat and putting it on the table at home. It takes a strong mental mindset to be able to sit in the cold for hours. I have sat in my stand thirty feet in the air many times to never even see a single animal. It gets frustrating sitting out there and having nothing show over and over. The end result is always well worth it though. This teaches a guy to be tough and know there is a prize at the end of hard work. Although,

There have also been 8 car crashes involving deer, this imposes a dangerous threat to the civilians of Evansville. The deer have been invading people’s yards and eating their gardens. At less than ten yards I took another shot. This time the deer did two somersaults and landed about seven feet from me. Excited I got up to take a look, the deer was definitely dead. He laid there on the ground in front of me with the nerves in his massive body still twitching. He was a nice ten point, this really made me happy because he was bigger than my brothers. My first shot had hit him in that shoulder, because I was probably shaking when I shot and this threw my shot off. My second shot went threw the neck and into the chest. After sitting and enjoying the moment I gutted him and drug him up to the house. This last season turned out to be my best ever because I was persistent and never gave up.

Despite the amount they are hunted, both in and out of season, you can not drive more than a few miles out of the towns without seeing one that was hit by a car. The deer population in this area just keeps growing. It is unclear what should be done to stop the over population of this beautiful creature. Perhaps different hunting seasons or longer seasons are the answer. Possibly we should focus more on the development of birth control for the female deer, or maybe repopulating wolves into the areas where the deer population is too great. Something has to be done.
