When you choose your words, you have to consider how they will impact the people you are speaking to. If the words you choose do not impact people what is the point of writing or saying them if they have no meaning. Do you ever think of the impact of your words? First, think of the words you choose that have power and can have an impact on others. Every word you choose have a positive and negative meaning. The negative meaning is direct and straightforward with no real meaning behind it where anyone can understand what you are trying to say and the positive meaning is where people can look at it from different points of view and interpret their own way how ever they would like to take it. For example, take the word "couch". It has a negative (direct) meaning: a piece of furniture for someone to sit upon. Anybody can ask anyone what is it and they will be able to say it is a "couch" (or whatever word means "a long upholstered piece of furniture for several people to sit on." in their language). It could be a loveseat, a sectional, a chesterfield, or whatever they think of before their mind's eye shows to that person a "couch". This is not common to everyone, but a general idea of an item depends on the person. This is why people use more specific words so they can narrow the general idea to one item of the speaker's intent. Thus, when the speaker has an image of a sectional, they add the more specific "multi-piece". This prevents the audience from thinking of a love seat image of a sectional, they add the more specific "multi-piece".
