Ashley was clearing her mind because she felt electricity the other day when he touched her hand. She had imagined it, strange things like that just didn't exist. Did they? Whatever it was, Ashley knew one thing. She didn't want it anymore. This would ruin her current relationship with him. Mark meant everything to her, and she couldn't lose him. He'd have no interest in her. The Tomboy. If he ever found out the truth, he'd put an end to the friendship between them and laugh. Ashley can't afford to let that happen. That's when the shabby, 1990 Toyota Corolla, pulled up, she turned around to face the passenger side of the car, just as her brother stuck his big fat head outside the window. “Ash, we were looking everywhere,” He said, “Why did
Later, Mark was in a motorcycle accident where he almost died, but he survived. After the accident he became a different person and angrier. Mark had an affair with a fifteen-year-old girl. Barbara even told the girl 's mother, but she didn 't care for some reason. Mark found out and became angry, but his mood swung so fast he was ready to have sex with Barbara again.
As a young girl, I was never fond of the name Anna. The name came along with too much baggage.. Unknowingly, people would constantly call me the wrong name, and some people, disregarding my opinion, even created strange nicknames for me. Over the years, I have been called a variety of names including Annie, Ann, Anna, Annabelle, Anne Frank, banana, banana boat, etc. Frankly, there are just too many variations of the name “Anna”. Being an extremely common name, almost everywhere I go, whether it be school or the grocery store, I always seem to find another “Anna”. Although nameberry.com tells me that “Anna” means grace, it actually means unique, intelligent, and affectionate.
Elizabeth is in her blue colored Honda Civic driving the highway on her way home from her workplace, listening to “Love Somebody” by Maroon 5 on the radio station. Out of nowhere, while Elizabeth was belting out the chorus, there is an ear-splitting and obnoxious sounding ding coming from the passenger seat. Her Android has a new text message and it is probably from her boyfriend, Adrian. Elizabeth reaches for the cell but it slips off of the seat and plummets onto the floorboard. She hurriedly glances up and gazes at the road, then dives down fast as lightning, or so she believes, and retrieves her Android. But she was not hasty enough and her car went off of the road and began rolling down a small hill and finally landed upside down in a ditch. She was helicoptered to a nearby hospital and was rushed into surgery. If only Elizabeth had been listening to the song, “Highway Don’t Care” by Tim McGraw and contemplating the lyrics to this ballad, then maybe she would not have been in the accident.
Lilly Barels never thought she would be a writer. As a UCLA graduate who double majored in Neuroscience and Dance, her relationship with creative writing ended in High School. However, almost fifteen years later, in the midst of a broken marriage and lost in the fog of un-fulfillment, Barels discovered the creative channel that would transform her from a high school physics teacher to a soon-to-be published writer. After a passionate and healing love affair with poetry, she was accepted into the MFA program at Antioch Los Angeles. In 2012, Barels received her Masters in Creative Writing with a focus in fiction. Although the author, Leslie Norris, did in fact write about a son shaving his father’s face in the short story “Shaving,” there is indeed a much deeper meaning and theme behind the story that explains the emotional distraught that one is put through during the ending of one’s life. When a loved one is on their death bed, the family members know that now is the time for change, that is what Barry, the son knew too and that is what this story is explaining by the events of shaving his father’s face. In this story, there are many ways that the author shows the vulnerability of the father and the graceful caring of Barry, one line from the story that shows that the father has allowed Barry to become the man of the house goes as follows,
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
“I’m right here, honey,” exclaimed her father Ricky. “I’m calling our local electric cooperative right now. I know they will get our power up and running again, but I’m sure we are not the only family without electricity.”
As a young child in elementary school, I struggled in the regular classes of language arts and math, and this caused my teachers to put me into Special Education. I recall hearing the regular students call me “stupid” all the time behind my back. When I had my regular classes in Social Studies or Science none of the other students wanted to be my partner in the group projects. I felt like an outcast, and my self-confidence was exceedingly low. However, I knew that I was not the smartest kid, but I was a hard worker. I begged my mom to help me convince the teachers to allow me to to join the regular classes in the 5th grade. Fortunately, my teachers agreed, and in my regular language arts class I was motivated to prove to my teachers, my classmates,
We were playing our traditional boys against girls war with my cousins. This is something I look forward to every year because we get to be outside and build forts. However I have learned that thinking two steps ahead of everything you do really does help.
A short story is a fictional piece of writing that can range from 1,000 to 20,000 words. Unlike a novel, he reader should be able to read a short story within a short amount of time. Because the length of a short story is shorter than a novel, it usually has one main character (minor characters can be added in limited amounts) and focuses on one plot, setting, and central theme.
The short story is a concise form of narrative prose that is usually simpler and more direct compared to longer works of fiction such as novels. Therefore, because of their short length, short stories rely on many forms of literary devices to convey the idea of a uniform theme seen throughout the script. This theme is illustrated by using characteristics that are developed throughout the story such as, plot, setting and characters. The three main components are developed throughout the story in order to guide the reader to the underlying theme, which is necessary as a short story lacking a theme also lacks meaning or purpose.

The traditional short story is a genre of a prose. It is a fiction work that presents a world in the moment of an unexpected change. The traditional short story obeys some rules, such as the unexpected change and major events with detail. The modern short story is a revolution which is based on the traditional short story. In other words, if the traditional short story is in the first floor, the modern short story is in the second floor. Therefore, the modern short story still obeys some rules that the traditional short story obeys, and breaks some rules that the traditional short story obeys. One rule that the modern short story still uses is the unexpected change. The rules broken by the modern short story are that the major events are not detailed, and that the border between the real world and the fiction world.
