I'm going to start tonight by talking a little bit about public accountability. Over the past month, Lucille Kring and Kris Murray have lambasted my parents and me for criticizing them in front of the crowd in this room and those listening at home. To paraphrase Kris Murray's comment, she does not understand why we get up here and insult them. You see, the cornerstone of any democratic government is a little something called public accountability. Unfortunately, I feel that this aspect of Anaheim's government has been completely thrown out the window. It is my belief that our council majority does not find themselves accountable to the public, but is rather accountable to their donors. Must I remind you that I began my sharp criticism of Lucille Kring when I attended a fundraiser she held with the short term rental owners, who's businesses she supports against the will of District 4 residents? Let's put this into a different perspective. If the city council votes to prevent the construction of additional hotels, has the city council voted to ban all hotels? Because, Lucille, you voted to ban the short term rentals that didn't yet exist, the ones no one was complaining about, and yet you want to pass it off as if you voted to ban all short term rentals. The ordinance you voted in favor of was literally called "the ban on future short term rentals." That did not cover the short term rentals that were already in existence, and therefore you did not vote to ban short term rentals. Realistically this comes down to a choice for you: do you admit that you are incorrectly portraying your own record on this issue, or do you treat the residents of Anaheim as if they are
