Trains are an excellent form of transportation when caution is used around them. Trainsand public transportation has been widely known to be a cheaper more efficient mode of transportation. It is a great alternative to driving an individual vehicle. The only major drawback to train transportation: if we do not exercise caution around trains, accidents will occur. In 2016 there were 2,025 collisions with trains. If we exercise caution that number will decrease. So we must use the correct caution procedures that are listed below. While driving near railroad tracks we must always slow down, never pass a car going in your same direction, do not park near the tracks, when stopped keep at least 15-50 feet between car and nearest rail, at night do not assume there is no train approaching just because there is a lack of …show more content…
There will be an “x” with large “R”s painted on each side of the x. The signs will be round yellow signs with the same words and symbols painted on it. When at the railroad crossing there will be white signs with bells and lights and potentially a gate. These signs are all warnings to be taken seriously. They are there for our protection and safety. If weuse the safety precautions listed above we will stay safe around trains. While riding the trains we must stay behind the yellow line to ensure our own safety. We also must never cross the tracks without looking both ways. Never cross the tracks if the lights are flashing or bells are ringing. Do not ride bikes, roller blades, scooters, or skateboards across or near the tracks. Never walk between cars across the tracks from platform to platform. If thereis a need to go across to the other platform simply walk around the train to ensure one’s safety. Make sure when standing on the platform waiting for a train that you, all of your belongings, and children remain behind the yellow textile

In the age of the Industrial Revolution railroads were considered an important invention. Along with its many benefits there were also problems. In the 1800s transportation between cities were exhausting and hard. This was not good, but on the bright side, if you got the pleasure of having a railroad in your neighborhood you were able to go visit your grandparents whenever you wanted. That is very cool but thankfully I got the pleasure of living across the street from them.
Unlike in the United States, train travel is a German way of life. You can get on at train at any bahnhof (train station) and travel to any destination in Europe you would like. The Germans use the train as their main mean of travel due to pollution and the inflated gas prices. Americans tend to use the automobile as our main mean of travel more than we should.
According to Dan Molinski, “Trains tend to spill a smaller amount of oil than other forms of transport.” That means that even though spills do happen on occasion they tend to be smaller than than using a pipeline that may stretch for miles. Also the International Energy Agency study said “that from 2004-12 there were six times as many rail spills as pipeline spills, but “the average pipeline spill was far graver.” “For instance, Ed Greenberg, spokesman for the Association of American Railroads, says that for trains last year “84% of the non accident releases involved spills of less than five gallons.” ( Dan Molinski) The better option is very clear, keep using railways it is less damaging to the environment and it can also be improved to make it
Railroads have made better the lives of most citizens in the US. By the 1890s, the United States was becoming an urban nation , railroads were a great way of transport between towns. They were used for the shipping of food, building materials and fuel. The presence of them could bring a territory a lot of opportunities as well as it could change its economy in many ways. Railroads also helped to shape physically the growth of towns and also a lot business grew around focal points in the railroad industry. Later on, the United States transport system was composed by 320,000 kilometers of railroads that prolonged from the Pacific to the Atlantic and vice versa and also connecting with the frontier countries, Mexico and Canada.
Created by George Stephenson, the railroad was a specific type of road designed for trains. Like the name suggests, rails allow the train to not fall out in place and continue going in a steady and fast line. As trains developed, the railroad was more useful than ever. It was used to transport goods and people to locations. It was much more reliable than a boat and much faster. Many railroads were laid out in the western frontier of the US, this encouraged the westward movement. More goods were traveled faster which boosted the economy and people could effortlessly go from place to place. The rails were very cheap to make compared to the roads for cars making it a very efficient system. As the trains improved, the railroads only got more
In the play Fences and 2 Trains Running written by August Wilson both have somewhat similar yet their differences despite being written by the same author. The play Fences, the main attention is on an African American family where the head of the house struggles to provide his family with needs. As for 2 Trains Running, this play displays many different cycles of the social and psychological presentation towards discrimination and race from perspectives of urban African American. Throughout both plays, a couple characters have displayed similar characteristics. From the play Fences, the protagonist Troy Maxson and West from 2 Trains Running. Besides those two characters, Cory Maxson, from Fences, and Holloway from 2 Trains Running, also demonstrates
Concepts –General Palmer Railroad was negligent and caused the death of John Goodson. Several factors attribute to negligence including insufficient operating regulations, lack of training for engineers and train crew, inadequate warnings at crossings and obstruction of the right of way view for both drivers and its train engineers. It is stated in the affidavit of the engineer that he did not see the truck until he passed the treeline. The treeline ends a ¼ mile before the grade crossing even though it takes ¾ miles for a train to stop. He admits he felt as if the truck was racing him and his first reaction was to blow the whistle instead of applying the brakes. This particular crossing had an accident 6 years prior so it should have been common sense for the engineer take extra precautions. According to exhibit 5, the Ralston Rd. had a diagnostic review on March 21st, 2006 and was scheduled to have gates installed in July of 2009. The review was about two months before the fatal accident involving John. This proves that Goodson Railroad knew the crossing needed improvement prior to the
When the lights are flashing you are not allowed to go and stay at a complete stop until the train has passed and the lights stopped flashing. If youthink the lights are not working do not cross the tracks until you have a clear view and can clearly see that there are no trains coming. When the barriers are down it is for your ownprotection and you are not allowed to cross through the barriers. Another common thing nearand around railroad crossings are warning signs that let you know what is ahead. There canalso be X’s and letters painted on the road or curb that warn you of the crossing. There arecrossbuck signs that let you know how many tracks there are. The caution is advised will all kinds of vehicles and not just cars. School buses, motorcycles, bicycles, and trucks with hazardous materials all have to follow the same laws and should all take the crossings seriously. Trains also can come at any time and you should always be ready to stop for a train as they can cross at any time day or night. If you so happen to get stuck on the train tracks and you will not be able to get it off the tracks, you need to get out immediately and get off the
The famous trolley problem describes a scenario where the train track has lost its breaks and is speeding up toward a junction. There are two pathways the train operator can take, either continue the current course, where five people are working on the rails, or switch to the alternative route, where only one person is situated. Taking either direction would result in casualties. The philosophers add an extra twist to the scenario by offering an alternative option: imagining that there is a bridge right above the train tracks, and right on that bridge is a gargantuan man. If one would throw this man down before the train, his bodily weight could stop the speeding train.
The earliest railroads in the United States were short wooden tramways connecting mines or quarries with nearby streams, which horses could draw heavier loads than on the common roads. At first the railroad faced strong opposition especially from canal backers, they were considered dangerous because flying sparks could set fires. Breaks were feeble and it was difficult to stop in the right place. To protect its investment in the Erie Canal, the carrying of freight on railroads was temporarily prohibited by New York Legislature (Kennedy 313).
It would prevent accidents because all of the “pods” would be evenly spaced, so there would be no way for the trains to collide. Our new way of commuting from place-to-place is also very environmentally friendly. Many modern subway systems use gasoline or electricity to power their trains. However, our rapid transit system uses solar panels on each of our trains and on top of the beam where the train is attached.
In the story the signalman is shown as being powerless to stop the horrible accidents involving the train just like humans are powerless to prevent train crashes from happening.
The research is able giving a chance to let us conduct a research in our university and addressing the issues might be involved. There are making our research can get the suggestion or opinion among UUM students towards the rail transportation. The factor that influenced the social behavior can be identified while conduct the research. We believe that the research we conducted can be explored more suggestion on solutions to improve the rail transport services and it will be mentioned in conclusion part.
