When i was growing up, my grandma lived on a small farm. Ever since growing up on that farm, i've had a deep love for animals, and always wanted to do something with them for a living. Being a veterinarian requires a lot of hard work, education, time and patience, but the rewards of the career absolutely outweigh that. veterinary sciences trace back all the way to 9000 B.C in middle eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and Iraq. Historical documents show people in this region used a basic knowledge of veterinary medicine, using things such as herbs to treat their sheep herds and dogs.One of the world's oldest medical texts, the Kahun Papyrus, contains a section specifically on animal medicine and gynecology. Thousands of years later, The Romans, Greeks, Babylonians, Hindus, Arabs and Hebrews also began practicing medicine on domesticated animals, especially horses due to their economic significance. …show more content…

As a consultant for horse care, he began studying veterinary medicine to stop the devastation of french cattle herds by the plague. Over the next decade multiple other vet schools were built in europe, in Germany, Sweden, and Denmark. Then in 1971, the London Veterinary College was established, and turned veterinary science into an actual profession.
The United State’s first Veterinary school wasn’t founded until 1852, and was the Veterinary College of Philadelphia (which only operated until 1866). Later in 1883, the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania was formed, and is the oldest operating veterinary college.
