Technology in the classroom can be a good thing for many students. For example, it gives students easy access to information, but it isn’t always the best thing. Technology helps raise the illiteracy rate higher as it is used in school. In 2009, about 97 percent of classrooms had at least one computer in the classroom everyday, although approximately 54 percent could bring their own computers to their class. There was internet access available for almost 93 percent of the computers in the classrooms. Otherwise, 96 percent of the computers were brought in to the students. The average ratio of students to computers was 5.3 to 1. Since 2006 the spending rate for each school in the United States has increased about 1,250 dollars. It’s rate in 2011 was almost 10,250 dollars per pupil. Although technology can help many students and teachers, due to the fact that the use of it gets abused by some students therefore it isn’t the greatest to have at our fingertips.
Technology in classrooms is affecting our culture in great ways. A lot of people who can not go to college at the sites can do classes online. More than three-quarters of America’s colleges and universities now have online classes available. Approximately one in four college graduates, or 23%, have taken an online course. This helps you get the degrees you need at your own time rate. This is helping people get better careers day by day. Technology is not only great for the purpose of people who are out of high school, it’s great for high school students as well. There are a number of key reasons why we must ensure adequate funding of our schools. To start, we must increase the accessibility of the Internet in our schools. With our society growing by the minute the need for technology is rapidly on the run. Today we depend heavily on the Internet to provide us with fast information. It is used in high tech businesses, in homes and in schools. Through the Internet we enable students to explore new and interesting issues. In addition to the books found in our local library, the Internet serves as a fundamental tool for education. With all of the assets that the Internet provides not all schools have it at their disposal. “According to a 1999 survey, conducted by Education Week only 87%, in states like Pennsylvania had Internet access” (Gazette 99). “This number however rose to 90% in 1999.” Although the numbers did rise there are other states that are not even close to that number of access. This poses as a major problem because while other students are building their skills and are learning more, others still rely on books and articles. Through Internet use students will not only be introduced to a wide a ray of topics and search engines but will also be able to familiarize themselves with technology.

For instance, allowing students the opportunity to use high tech software as they learn can potentially prepare them in future job opportunities. Students at the High Tech High School in San Diego are taught using the same computer programs one might find in a future job, thus preparing them for their future career (Schorr, Jonathan, and Deborah). Students who have used and are accustomed to using similar software as they might find in a workplace have a greater chance of being hired by the corporation and having overall success. Not only can this be a successful way of instruction, but it can also effectively inform students of different software. Similarly, students who learn the needed technology skills in high school are more likely to find success in a high-tech working career (Coleman). By giving students the opportunity to learn and become accustomed to various technology while still in school, it increases their chance of success with high-tech devices in their future careers. Using technology in school can therefore positively impact the students. Also, technology can engage students in learning. Empire High School, for example, had replaced all their textbooks with iBooks and Apple laptops in order to increase student engagement. Many teachers did in fact believe that the students felt more strongly about their school work after the experiment (Rotstein). Incorporating technology into curriculum can increase students’ willingness to learn. Because the majority of students enjoy using technology, adding it to school would be effective in increasing their will to learn. Some schools believe that technology can become a distraction, however. A student at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia commented, "’The teachers think their students are engrossed in class research when they 're actually playing video games and surfing the Net, (Welsh).’" The use of technology
Technology is becoming more and more dominant in our society.Everyday upgrades are being made and new innovations are being discovered. Technology is all around us whether we want it to be or not: it is the vehicles we drive, it can be found in our homes, and can even be found in the grocery store.Every place we look there is some type of technology.I believe technology has had a major impact on our school systems and is still impacting it today.There are those who do not agree, though, that technology has impacted our schools.Eric Gormly writes, “In fact, many theorists point out the overall impact of technology on education has been quite small, manifesting little discernible change in the classroom.” [1]Yes, there are some schools that are not as advanced as others, but many of them do have a significant amount of technology in them.I find it fascinating that so much technology has been incorporated into our classrooms, but I believe that, even with all of the positive aspects that are associated with technology, there are some negative and even dangerous aspects that should be taken into account.I will be sharing some of the equipment that has been used in the schools, how both the students and the teachers use the equipment, and also the positive and negative effects that technology has had on our schools.
Education is one of the most important professions in the working world. Technology has done many things for us in today’s society especially for education and schools. Technology in the school system has impacted the students and teachers in many positive ways, including virtual field trips, testing tips, teacher resources, class web sites, and lesson plans. With computer use in our schools, we have access to many different sources and various types of learning.
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
Furthermore, the learning process is easily enhanced when technology is used. First, with Internet access in each classroom, it allows the teacher to access massive amounts of information in just a few seconds. This information can be given to the students in a clear, easy to read format as it is projected onto the screen. With such easy access to information, students are able to learn more in a smaller time span, while teachers are able to be more efficient in how they teach. This makes the education a person gets from their school more valuable for their money; and money is important as college costs continue to rise.
Today’s generation is like no other. The nation as a whole has completely evolved from past times, with technology being one of the greatest improvements. Traditionally, schooling takes place in a classroom setting, but, with the many modifications in our world’s system, we are able to assimilate more modern means of education, such as online learning. However, with many changes comes differences and requires adjustments. The online learning system has proven to be just as effective as traditional learning, with some minor differences, however, nothing of great significance. Modern technology has made it so much easier to obtain educational information for classroom or homework assignments. It offers educational games that stimulate the brain and help children who have difficulties focusing on traditional teaching and learning procedures. College students are even taking advantage of online courses that many colleges are offering as an alternative to physically attending classes. Advances in technology and computers will continue to play an important role in education for many generations to come.
Every teacher has a desktop in order to run attendance, check important emails sent in from administration, print out that day’s assignment and many more. With the internet going down on a school day, everything becomes unsettling and the teachers begin to look for other alternatives to help carry on throughout their lesson but, they find themselves struggling without their accustomed plan. The lesson for that day may even be canceled because for some classes, the internet and computers is the only tool necessary to complete their work. For instance, an English college class may need the internet in order to complete research for an assignment but without laptops or desktops or internet, it is impossible to accomplish. This is one example on how the school system is highly dependent on technology. Not only are teachers reliant on technology, but the students as well. It is no longer acceptable to write an essay on paper with a fancy pen. Most teachers expect a printed version or submission through a drop box online. In addition, students need constant research for assignments whether it be credible source websites, online dictionary, or even an online calculator to help solve a mathematical problem.
