Disagreeing with the author, I believe that Chris McCandless was crazy and was somewhat ignorant in his decisions. Chris gives multiple evidence that supports this thesis. Chris may have made friends easily, but were they good friends or was he a good friend? He was not worth admiring, especially to have a book be written about him. Chris also didn’t know enough about living in the wild to survive which made him ignorant. As shown above, Chris was not worth admiring because he didn't accomplish anything special. If he would have survived his journey into the wild then that would of been something to admire. Chris wasn't the best man either. He left his family, had no contact with them, and let them be worried about his well being. McCandless …show more content…

For example, Westerberg “didn’t concern himself with McCandless’s family problems”. (Krakauer 63) A good friend would want to know about his family problems so they could help their friend and give them advice. If Chris’s friends were good friends they would have tried to stop Chris from going to Alaska or at least give him advise and supplies for the trip so he could be better prepared. Borah and Wolf are examples of bad friends because they didn't try to stop or help Chris before he went into the wild unprepared and naive. Evidence of this is when Chris started crying when he was hugging Borah and it frightened her because ‘“he wasn't planning on being gone all that long”’. She said, ‘“I figured he wouldn't have been crying unless he intended to take some big risks and knew he might not be coming back. That’s when I started having a bad feeling that we wouldn't ever see Alex again.”’ Borah should have listened to her gut feeling and urged Chris to not go into the wild. Chris’s friend, Wolf, also didn't say something when he should have. For example, Wolf exclaims, “‘When I let him off, he had that big damn machete hanging off his shoulder. I thought, ‘Jeeze, nobody’s going to pick him up when they see that thing. But I didn't say
