Many people say that music is life. It does not mean playing an instrument, just listening. I am a firm believer of this statement as music is a huge part of my life. While I can listen to any genre of music, hip-hop has motivated me through most of my life. To begin with, rap music has helped me beat some of the biggest challenges in my life. During my sophomore year at Cabrillo High School, my tenth grade Honors English class gave me a lot of homework. There were many times where I stayed up all night because of it. Blu and Exile’s Below the Heavens helped me get through the nights of hardship. In a song called “The World Is (Below the Heavens…)”, the artist gives an interesting concept about heaven to the listener. His idea is that “every man has his own heaven/The difference is the way that he envisions it”. This line has a huge influence on my life. It gave me a reason to work vigorously because my “heaven” is to go to college and have a steady job that pays well; and, as a result, I have a weighted GPA of 4.04 right now. However, there is one album that always lifts my spirits, and that is Boy Meets World by Fashawn. One song that continuously inspires me is “Hey Young World” featuring Aloe Blacc and Devoya; the lyrics are incredibly uplifting, saying, “everything began with a vision/Some hard work and a thing called/ Intuition/ That’s, when you feel you’re at your lowest and you’re about to collapse”. When I feel like I will not succeed in life, I put on this song, which encourages me to work even harder. I do this because, like the song says, “he who never tries never fails/ but if you don’t ever try you’re a failure”. That is why I will always strive to get into college, even when the going gets
