Results The hypothesis is correct; if I change the background music from a scene of a movie, then the viewers will have the same feeling of the music that is playing because hearing music affects emotion. For this experiment there were 4 movie scenes that the testers needed to watch each of them followed the hypothesis.
The first movie scene was a clip from the Lion King; the background music mood was exciting. Almost half of the viewer’s chose exciting for the mood of the scene (see appendix 1). There were 27% that chose other as the mood. 27% also chose either happy, or scared. This data shows that the music changed the mood of the movie for about half of the viewers. This also shows that half of the people tested chose the mood of the music, this partially supports the hypothesis. The next movie clip was a battle scene from The Lord of the Rings; the background music was a very happy, light tune. This scene was slightly challenging for the testers because what they were watching was the absolute opposite from what they were hearing. Appendix 2 and 3 show that Happy was the highest chosen mood for this movie clip. This proves the hypothesis well, even though the music and the scenes were the total opposites. Appendix 2 and 3 show that 8 people chose happy, out of a total of 13 spectators. The last scene is from the movie Tangled, the original music was exciting, and the altered music was scary.
