How Does Kate The Great Influence Jenny's Character

In Kate the Great by Meg Cabot, Jenny realizes that people aren’t always what they seem to be. Jenny thought Kate was very popular and had a lot of friends. When Jenny is talking with Patrick she tells him, “She’s always going on about how popular she is and how many parties she gets invited to and all the people who like her and stuff” (Cabot, 44). However, Jenny later learned from Patrick that she doesn’t have as many friends as she says she does. Jenny thinks to herself, “I realized that her life was way worse than mine. Because at least I don’t have to go around lying about how popular I am. And at least I don’t have boys hanging out with me because they feel sorry for me” (Cabot,45). Kate was always saying that she was very popular and had a lot of friends. Later on in the story, though Jenny found out that she doesn’t have many friends and that Patrick only hangs out with her because he feels sorry for her. Jenny now knows that Kate wasn’t who she seemed to be. Jenny learned things about Kate that contradicted what she originally thought about her. Jenny first thought badly of Patrick just because he was hanging out with Kate. Jenny didn’t really trust him and especially didn’t trust his tin foil can he had. For example, I can say that about myself, people usually think that I am a very quiet, nice person. The people that truly know me though, know that I am very loud and sometimes not generally in the nice category. In politics, it happens a lot too, let’s say Donald Trump for example, during the race for presidency, he was typically seen as a very rude, and not very smart person, but when he was saying his acceptance speech he was actually very polite and even thanked Hillary for a good run. So, Trump wasn’t who he seemed to be and neither am I just like in Kate the Great, you’ll learn that people aren’t always what they seem to
