If we can not change the world then let us change the eyes which see the world. (Nikos Kazantzakis) In the Iliad by Homer change is visible in a lot of the characters from the beginning to the end. Throughout the Iliad many of the characters change but the one I am writing about is Achilles.Achilles changes dramatically throughout the story going from a great but sad warrior to an aggressive and triumphant warrior. There are many characters in the Iliad but the one I chose is Achilles. Achilles changes throughout the story like many other characters but his changes have a big impact on the story. The text displays that “Achilles sulked by his ships”. (Homer 33). This displays that Achilles was sad, sad because Agamemnon took Briseis from him. Throughout the book Achilles changes dramatically. Even though he does change in the middle of the book it is very subtle. To start off, ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Achilles was polite. In the text it states that “Achilles stopped playing stood up politely for the other men”. (Homer 84). This proves that Achilles is welcoming and polite to the other men on the Greek side. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Although Achilles was was frustrated and sad. In the text it states, “Achilles was silent” (Homer 85). Achilles was still in shock he couldn’t even say anything. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Furthermore, Achilles was still mad at Agamemnon and wouldn’t accept his apology. As stated in the text “Achilles shook his head sadly”. (Homer 162). This displays that because Achilles was mad he wouldn’t listen to anything they said.
