In this modern world of ours, Zombies have become increasingly popular. Ranging from movies, television shows, and graphics of the zombie, the viewpoint of what a zombie is can be different within each person. Taking a look at the recent images of zombies one can notice most being brain eating, undead monsters. Other few circumstances one can see that some zombies are represented as undead monsters who can feel and notice their surroundings; fall in love, and progressively become more humanized. The difference exhibited by different authors and directors all supports the notion that Zombies are not seen the same way by every person. With centuries of wars, the act of murder, mass killings, and terrorism, one can tell that humankind can be very destructive. The image of a flesh eating zombie can be a representation of one’s desire to destroy, it can calm the human mind. The directors and authors of zombies in media have two directives: to portray the images they have in their own mind to the public, and to entertain the human mind of destruction and fear. Instead of destroying themselves, one can simply turn on a film, watch a zombie horror film, and have their mind at ease. Depending on what people experience in their life, the desire of destruction is much stronger within some than others. This supports the reason why some people prefer to watch a vicious battle in a zombie apocalypse rather than a warm-to-the-soul love story. The terrorism acts, murderers and natural disasters are all the “zombie apocalypses” of this century. This social standard that the world is a violent place fills everyone’s mind with fear, and if these standards weren’t so terrifying neither would the movies or images of the zombie be. With the jarring events and diseases transpiring such as 9/11, and the Zika virus, one cannot live a normal life of ease. The cultural anxiety of today represents the zombies of this day and age. It may be because of the social events that have occurred over the years leading to the intimidating image of the zombie, but these zombies provide ideas of how we deal with the past and present social issues. A getaway or an entertainment, individuals are so drawn to the image of zombies because they are so similar to the cultural events and anxieties that have been created over the years, almost as if zombies are a recreation. The longer this goes on, the easier it is for apocalyptic anxieties and a harmed mental state to emerge as our own zombies take
