Have you ever asked yourself out of Ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt and Mesopotamia which one had the most influence on our world today? The Ancient Mesopotamians were definitely the most influential. They were some of the first people to make tools and then innovate the tools that they had already created, hunting and learning the best hunting strategies and how they found out how to make the first irrigation systems and some of that had to do with the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers. Making tools was one of the first things that the Mesopotamians accomplished and they were one of the first ones to get to it because they were one of the first civilizations. They made some of the first tools but one thing is that they were also very useful. Just as well that they made tools, they made them better. One of the things that they used was the sickle because since they were next to rivers, and when they would over flow that would make them sprout faster. Then they would have a meal that they could bring back to their camp and the people of that camp would be very happy with them because they are providing food for the others. One of the things that they also made for them to use are spears. They could sit up in trees and when a pig or some type of animal that they could hunt walks by, they could throw their spear at the animal and then go track the animal to get more food. They eventually made the tip of the spear out of stone and sharped that so that it could penetrate better. As more people arrived, the small settlements flourished into large, thriving civilizations. Many aspects of Mesopotamia and Egypt, such as their cities, their strongly organized government, and their religion, greatly contributed to the success of these two civilizations.

There have been many contributions from a very long time ago that still influence life today. Specifically the three River Valley Civilizations, Egypt, China and Mesopotamia. Starting in around 3500 B.C. the first of the River Valley Civilizations was formed in southwestern Asia, and soon grew into these three major contributions to society today.
Although many factors have influenced the development of civilizations around the world, most are derived from the necessities required by all humans to maintain existence. One of the most primitive needs of the human race is food. The ability of the land to provide a surplus of food was a significant contributing factor for civilization to emerge in Mesopotamia. Crops such as barley, emmer, olives, beans, grapes and flax were very easy to grow in the fertile soil found there. The Mesopotamians learned to reroute would be floodwaters to the drier land to hydrate their crops, laying the foundation for modern day irrigation systems.

The Sumerians were the most incredible people who ever lived on the face of the earth. They created civilization when most of the rest of the world was still living in the Stone Age. The Sumerian civilization was already ancient when it ended in 2004 B.C., twenty centuries before Julius Caesar, sixteen centuries before Socrates, and seven centuries before Tutankhamen. The Egyptians were the only people with a civilization comparable to the Sumerians. There is no mention of the Egyptians in the Sumerian archives and there is no direct evidence that they had a noticeable influence on one another, except for their ability to build giant pyramids.

Also, the Hittites and the Lydians settled in Mesopotamia. The Hittites developed a way to produce strong plows and weapons. The Lydians created a system of coined money. The contributions from the region of Mesopotamia in ancient times are still used today and are very useful.
