As the story introduces itself, it speaks about the main character, Gilgamesh, the semi mythic King of Uruk between 2700 and 2500 B.C.E. Gilgamesh was considered a hero of the Ancient Babylonian poem, and during the ancient times known to be great literature poet. Throughout the story we learn about both his parents such as Ninsun, his mother, who was a goddess, and Lugalbanda, his father, who was the half-god king of Uruk. Even though Gilgamesh was known as a strong, incredibly handsome young man. He would also be sexually exploiting the young women of Uruk. People were fearful of the young ruler because Gilgamesh would take advantage of them. He would make them work till they couldn’t anymore construct the walls of Uruk. Gilgamesh wasn’t a considerate man for anyone else but himself. It is said that no one was able to resist his power. The people of Uruk would complain to the gods and begged Aruru, the goddess of creation, to help make someone who was stronger than Gilgamesh. Aruru then created another man, named Enkidu, a match of Gilgamesh. In the beginning Enkidu is one that looks like an animal and placed in the wilderness by the goddess Aruru. There seem to be several purposes, but the most important one is explaining the different events in history. As shown in the bible, here Gilgamesh explains how the world was created. But, also, The Epic of Gilgamesh was intended to show values such as friendship, taking responsibility, and respect and love. In addition, it teaches other values such as decision making and making the right choices. The roles of love and friendship are really valued and viewed as a part of an everyday life, but as a necessary component to be able to have a true meaning. In the end we see how Enkidu accepted his death in exchange for the friendship he created with
