Everyone in this world owns a phone that they have on them 24/7. Cell phones could be use to research informational information, but instead people use it to take selfies and be on the latest social media. In 2014, 93 million selfies were posted daily worldwide (Keen). By having cell phones always available, people become self absorbed. People are becoming less aware of the world around them. Among average 64% of Americans own smart phone. About 85% of young people from the ages of 18-29 own a smartphone (Inspire). On the other note, Weinberger thinks that smartphones are not making people stupid. He states that our phones are always with us so we can always look up for information if we wanted to. They would not have to carry twenty books but can download the books onto their devices. He thinks that people learn more with the access of having the internet with them any time they need it (Weinberger, Inspire). People in today 's world rather read online than to read with an actual book. Even if people try reading something online, they do not even finish that. They just skim. People do not even careful read. They do not even take the time to take in the information they read. Bruce Friedman wrote in his blog about medicine, “I now have almost totally lost the ability to read and absorb a longish article on the web or in print” (Mauk & Metz). Friedman also stated that he has a hard time reading War and Peace. He also said that a blog post of three or four paragraphs is just too b hard for him to read and he just skims them (Mauk & Mertz). People chat with family members, friends and other people on the internet. People use many different languages when they talk on the internet. When talking on the internet a person could be using a mean tone of voice but the other person could think they are happy. Ellen Seiter thinks that the internet will revolutionize communication in all places such as workplaces, education and leisure will all be commonplace. (Seiter) The television plays a big role in promoting internet. The shows on it show the people and how they are always on the internet (Seiter). Not only does the television promote internet, but the internet also promotes watching television. With technology today if a person wanted to watch something but it is not available on television, it is possible to just look it up on the internet and watch it there. Instead of driving to a place to watch whatever the person wanted. However in 1996, computers with built in televisions tuners became available well as set top boxes that allow internet to be accessed through the television. (Seiter) Many sets of computers and televisions are commonly in the same rooms. Mainly teenagers multitask by sitting on their computers and watching television.
