Imagining the similarities between one of the most famous Shakespearean plays and a new animated Disney movie is difficult, until you look deeply into the characters. From the Shakespearean play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is extremely similar to Mother Gothel from the Disney movie Tangled. Lady Macbeth is Macbeth’s wife that has strong desires and personality. The movie Tangled created a similar character with Mother Gothel, she is Rapunzel's mother and believes in going after what you want. The two characters are not the exact same, they differ in their desires and in their ending demise. They are much more similar in their motives and their actions which reveal their shared character traits. Lady Macbeth is losing her sense of reality when she is dying because of all the terrible things she has done, she is beginning to feel guilty and it’s consuming her. On the other hand, Mother Gothel feels no guilt or shame, and is still trying to control Rapunzel as she has done before. Mother Gothel is trying to make Rapunzel go underneath the tower where no one will find them together. Once Rapunzel’s hair is cut Mother Gothel dies because of all of her years avoiding death has caught up with her, she dies angry without any feeling of remorse. These difference do show a lot about the characters but their similarities will help form an even better understanding. Lady Macbeth and Mother Gothel have extremely similar traits and ideals that fuel their independent desires. They are both driven by their selfishness, commitment, and fear. Lady Macbeth’s selfish motive can be shown while she is talking about her desire for power. She never says why she wants the power and she does not appear to be trying to gain it in order to help others. It’s
