Macbeth vs A Simple Plan

It is a common stereotype that men are stronger than women. That is however, neither true in Macbeth nor “A Simple Plan”. Macbeth and “A Simple Plan” are similar in the aspect of manipulative women who forced their husbands to betray, lie, and murder.
Macbeth and “A Simple Plan” both contains scenes where the lady of the house convinces their husband to betray another. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth degrades Macbeth by questioning his manhood. “when you durst do it, then you were a man”(I:7:49, Shakespeare). The last thing Macbeth wanted was to not be considered a man by his own spouse. Not only did Lady Macbeth defile Macbeth’s honour, she specifically tells Macbeth that she refuses to accept him as a man until he does the deed. She forced the idea of betrayal into Macbeth. Lady Macbeth manipulated Macbeth to kill his king despite all the loyalty Macbeth has in the king. Without Lady Macbeth, Macbeth would have never gone through with the plans of assassinating King Duncan. In “A Simple Plan”, Sarah convinces Hank to betray his dear friend Lou. She forced the idea into Hank by telling him that no one would expect such an evil plan from an innocent citizen such as Hank. She repeats the fact that nobody would believe that Hank is capable of doing what he has done throughout the entire movie. Hank is a kind person who respected the law and valued friendship; he would have never betrayed Lou without the influence of Sarah.
Secondly, Macbeth and “A Simple Plan” involves scheming wives who convinced their husbands to lie. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is able to pressure Macbeth, the honest and loyal Thane of Glamis and Thane of Cawdor, to forge a false story. ...m Lady Macbeth’s manipulation. In “A Simple Plan”, Hank was the person who would have never thought about doing anything wrong. He even told Lou that the American Dream is hard earned, and not stolen. Further into the movie, Hank suffocated Dwight without any second thoughts. He then disposed of the body as if it was an accident. This massive change in his behaviour came from the devious housewife Sarah. Both kind hearted and pure gentlemen was turned into cold blooded murdered by their beloved wives.
Macbeth and “A Simple Plan” are very similar because the main female characters are strong and controlling woman. These powerful women are able to manipulate their husbands to betray, lie, and murder. Macbeth and “A Simple Plan” clearly have controlling wives who are the real mastermind whereas their husbands are merely puppets awaiting their wives to pull the strings.
