In life there may come a time where you need to sacrifice or give up something that you truly adore just to see another chance of hope in someone's life.“The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, the setting takes place in an uncultivated environment where the village would have a yearly lottery. In which the villagers would sacrifice people for the good of the village. Although it may seem that this lottery mechanism is not the right approach there are many positive results. After they have selected their villager to be stoned the crops would grow, which supplied the villagers with more food giving the villagers more hope in the lottery, making its annual tradition. Each time they would partake in the lottery corn and other crops would start to grow which gave the village faith on their survival as they were not afraid of starvation. “...Used to be a saying about 'Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon.'
