Honduras is a small Central American country (Euraque, 308). The country is very poor and has a low average income (308). Honduras's most leading production of goods are their bananas, which is their main source of income through the year (308). They grow their bananas in northern lowlands near the Caribbean Sea (308). For some of the people, they live in the inland mountains and grow their own foods (308). They will raise cattle, grow beans, coffee, and corn to feed themselves and their families (308). They raise cattle on the plains bordering the southern part of the country to the Pacific Ocean (308). They also grow other foods, such as oranges, sugar cane, and tomatoes (308). The people of this country have poor communication and transportation (309). Most of Honduras's people live in small homes made of adobe, poles, or boards, and even sometimes dirt and stone packed into wooden frames (309). These people will sometimes live in rural areas of Honduras (309). Most of the citizens in Honduras are mestizos (309). Mestizos are people with both white and Indian ancestry (309). The country has only four main land regions (309). They are: the mountainous Interior, the Northern Coast, the Northeastern Plain, and the Southern Coast (309). The Mountainous Interior covers over more than sixty percent of Honduras (309). This region includes thick forests of oaks and evergreens (310). The country has no live volcanos, but the countries next door do (309). The Northern Coast is the region where the bananas are produced (309). The Northern Coast is the only region with railroads in Honduras (309). There are some farming in the Aguán Valley and other river valleys (310). The Northeastern Plain is the least developed out of the four main land regions, and is most thinly populated region in the country (310). The region is mainly covered up by the tropical rain forest (310). This plain also has some grasslands and some pine and palm trees (310).
