According to a report by the Administration For Children and Families (2013), one in every twenty six children are experiencing some form of homelessness. Homelessness does not have a “typical” face or look. It can be as hard to spot as a needle in a haystack or may be so obvious that it screams out for help. So what does this mean for early education classrooms? As early educators we must be mindful of the behaviors, changes, and issues that may come with families and children in our care facing homelessness.
