Menopause is a permanent stop of menstruation as it ceases ovulation. It signals the end of the fertility phase in a woman and usually happens in midlife. It is not an illness but a biological natural process.

The hormonal level fluctuate for many years and eventually become low that the endometrium that is the uterine lining stops bleeding. The production of the hormones like estrogen by the ovaries becomes less during menopause. The estrogen is an important reproductive hormone that also helps in other functions like heart, liver, bone formation, breast and also bladder function. The average age for a natural menopause is 51 years. However it can occur much earlier or later. Some women have their menopause before 45 and this is called as early menopause and before 40 it is known as premature menopause. The stage which marks the beginning of menopausal symptoms to postmenopause is called perimenopause. The duration following the last period which is more than 12 months of no periods is called postmenopause.

The dropping levels of estrogen levels may experience a number of symptoms and effects. However the degree and range of all such affects is different from one person to another. The signs and symptoms include:

There is inadequacy of lubricant from the vagina that may cause a lot of discomfort and pain. This may also lead to bleeding during sexual intercourse.

• Hot flashes

The low level of the estrogen hormone will make you experience extremely cold or hot sensation that sometimes you feel really hot and sometimes very cold.
