I first interviewed my mother. She was 29 years old at the time of 9/11, living in Arizona. She was getting ready for work/school and turned on the news like she did every other morning. Of course, this terrible event was all over the news and at the point when she turned it on, the first plane had hit the tower and it was being reported as an “accident.” At first, she believed the pilot may have suffered a heart attack or other medical condition while controlling the plane, therefore losing control and flying into the tower. She was sadden by this, thinking it an accident. But her sorrow quickly turned to grief as she watched the second plane hit the other tower. We thankfully did not have any families members in the area at the time of the attack, however my mother cried and prayed for the families that lost loved ones that terrible day. However, Brian would get to see his dream of Ground Zero be rebuilt. After nine months and thousands of workers, the recovery process was finished and the rebuilding began. A memorial was also to be built, which I had the opportunity to visit during my trip to the East Coast. It is so bittersweet because the memorial is so beautiful, but its history and the reason why it is here is terribly sad. No matter where in the nation someone was, everyone felt the devastation of the 9/11 attack; whether it was directly losing a family member or indirectly watching it affect America. This infamous event will go down in the history books, but hopefully no other attack as devastating will join it.
