High School dropouts to Military
A pilot program is offering high school dropouts a chance to earn their GEDs for free - in exchange for their service (Biello). I think it would be great to get a GED in exchange for service in the military (Biello).
If high school kids dropout then they would get scared of joining the military. Because they would have a fear of getting shot or getting captured so they don’t dropout of school or anything else (Biello). I would get scared if i ever dropped out of school to go to the military (Biello).
They would be able to get their GED to finish school so they don’t have to go back to school so they graduate (Biello). It would be great to get your GED that quick and not have to go back to school (Biello). All

    A total of 3,030,000 students drop out of high school annually in the United States, thirty six percent of whom drop out in the ninth grade (SB). With each student that drops out, there must also be the thought of said student’s future and how he or she will affect the futures of others. The overwhelming amount of teenagers leaving school will have long term effects on the economy. Assuming a student who has dropped out of school is not going to pursue getting a GED (General Education Development), then according to drop out rates that student “will not be eligible for ninety percent of jobs currently offered in the United States” (SB). By not earning a degree, a dropout cannot make the same amount as a college graduate or even someone who has achieved a diploma. Without being able to get a stable job to support a daily life, people turn to the government for help which in turn cost the public billions of dollars every year. Claudio Sanchez from the National public Radio defined taxpayer’s losses to be “up to 350 billion a year in lost wages, taxable income, health, welfare, and incarceration costs among others” (Zhao). With the public’s loss of money there is no telling how much of what is going where. The money going towards supporting dropouts is a large miss use, seeing as dropouts could have potentially continued school. Students ending education early on and relying on government support will continue to take the economy into an unstable downturn.

The first and most obvious detriment to the readiness of a Soldier with a missed appointment is the ever-present threat of UCMJ action taken under article 86, Absent Without Leave. To be charged under article 86 of the UCMJ you merely have to be not present at the given place of your appointment at the specified time. Receiving an article 15 for the above charge can have a domino effect on both the Soldier’s professional and personal life. Depending on the severity of the punishment exacted through the article 15 the Service Member runs the risk of losing time, money, and freedom. In an extreme case the loss of these things can cause a fit of depression that firstly could cause the Service Member to seek further help through behavioral health services to feel better. Secondly, if the Service Member is not resilient in the face of this adversity they may not get back on the metaphorical horse and their work suffers for this they can come under even more scrutiny. With an article 15 the lost time for work is not always noticed when it come to the multiple reading and the time it takes to prepare the paperwork. First the commander takes time out of his busy day to read the Service Member not only once but twice. Administration not only takes the time to prepare but also deliver the necessary paperwork to trial defense services. If the offense is repetitive the possibility of court martial can come into play.
