In past years, when people were talking about higher education, they had no hesitation to mention university immediately. When others were mentioning that college, like two-years college and community college, also belonged to higher education, sometimes they reacted with a wry smile, and shook their heads. Yes, even if it is for today, university gets the higher appraisal than college, and even somebody think ‘‘college as America used to understand it is coming to an end.’’(Addison,255) As parents, they prefer their children to study in university instead of community college or two-years college, no matter how high of tuition the university it is. Here’s the data of tuition between university and two-years college. If you want to study in UCLA straightly for 4 years, you need at least 26,328 dollars each year; If you want to graduate from it, it is such a huge cost of tuition you can’t imagine. By contrast, if you want to study at two-years college, you just need forty-six dollars each unit if you are a resident; If you are a citizen, it is even for free! It is much cheaper and saves us money. In the article ‘‘Two Years Are Better than Four’’, Liz Addison states her point that ‘‘the college experience’’ is really happening at the two-year college. In my opinion, I really agree with Liz’s point. If we want to transfer to university, we can study and finish all the courses that the transferred university requires at the two-years college. Therefore, if we want to study at a university in the future and graduate, studying at two-years college first is the best way to save our money. At two-years college we just need to study hard, finish required courses and achieve the GPA that transferred university requires for our majors. My cousin Kelly has similar experience. Kelly emigrated to America when she finished high school in China.
