Have you ever felt like you don’t belong? Well here is the story of a boy who definitely felt like an outcast. The movie Hercules is about a god who was born as a burden to Hades. Hades tried to kill Hercules, but the only way he could succeed was to turn him mortal so he did. Hercules was forced to live among the humans, realizing he wasn’t welcome. This movie shows that no matter what, you do belong somewhere.

In the departure phase of a hero’s journey, as outlined by joseph campbell, a hero will question the world he or she lives in because he or she is different. Also in most journeys of a hero there will be some sort of call to adventure, or a reason for leaving, which a hero will sometimes deny, and sometimes accept. People would call Hercules a freak because he was stronger than everyone else and always ended up ruining things. He realized that he didn’t fit in and let his family to find out who he truly is and where he truly belongs.

When entering the unknown world hero’s run into many obstacles and challenges that their mentors will try to help them overcome, they encounter supernatural aid, talisman and some allies and helpers along the way, many heroes will run into tricksters and evil people working against them, they may also find themselves a temptress. Throughout the story he tries to find who he really is and where he truly belongs. Along the way he runs into a girl named Meg, he fall in love with her not knowing that she is working with Hades. Hades is trying to destroy Hercules. When Hercules defeats Hades he becomes a hero and a god and returns to being immortal, he faces the decision of returning to a mortal to be with Meg or being a god like his father Zeus.
