Medicine has entered a new era of information technology (EMR) Electronic medical records has been influenced in the last twenty years and now a growth in the medical profession with a Required certification and Degree level to work in medical records (HIT). Electronic medical records has made a safer and more efficient way to access patient information. This electronic system has created a benefit to all medical staff including Physicians. Allowing Doctors to view currently administered meds, blood test results, x-rays and prescribe electronically. EMR has also helps support HIPPA policies, in misidentifying patients and mixing medical information. In my chosen profession as a Health information Technology, a two year degree is required to receive an associates. After research I leaned that successful completion of the HIT program. “Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)” enables you to apply for RHIT testing. Professionals holding the RHIT credential are health information technicians who ensure medical records quality by verifying their completeness, accuracy, and proper entry into computer system applications to assemble and analyze patient data for the purpose of improving patient care or controlling costs using medical coding. Health information technologists are certified specialist in coding diagnoses and procedures and are required to hold CCS and CPC certification to become coders. Certification is important because it increases the chance of employment and helps earn higher paying salaries. Computer skills are very important and are used for about 80% of the job. Most medical record positions use EMR systems which are electronic and require medical charting and computer knowledge. In an much older setting like medical offices paper charting, billing and filing is still used. HIT employees not only spend most of their time on a computer but often communicating on the phone or over email with insurance companies, billing verifiers, medical offices and with physicians. This job requires employees to send most of the day sitting. Later medicals problems seen in this profession are neck, back, wrist and vision
