When Prince Hamlet returned home, he was shocked to see his uncle, Claudius as the new King of Denmark and married his mother, Queen Gertrude (SparkNotes,2007). This upset Hamlet, because his mother remarries his uncle and he's upset his uncle had taken his throne. One night in Elsinore Castle, guardsmen by the fence spotted a ghost that resembles the King Hamlet (SparkNotes,2007). A guardsman called Prince Hamlet, to tell him that there was a ghost that resembles his late father; Hamlet and his father ghost had a conversation about King Hamlet's death. His father's ghost told Hamlet, that he was poisoned in his ear by his brother, Claudius. His father ghost wanted Hamlet to seek revenge for the killing of him, the former King Hamlet, (SparkNotes,2007). This shocked Hamlet, because the ghost, also want him to get his throne back from the person who married his wife. This had a new twist in the plot, because the one who is behind the murder of King Hamlet is his brother and the new King, Claudius. After the initial betrayal by his mother, Hamlet discovers that Claudius has also betrayed him when he learns that it was Claudius who murdered his father. Claudius killed Hamlet’s dad and then married his mom to become the leader of Denmark. Later in the play, Hamlet sees his dad’s ghost and is informed of the horrific act committed by his uncle. Hamlets’ dad’s ghost says, “Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder” (I. V. 25). Hamlets’ dad says this to Hamlet so that his uncle could get retribution for his actions. Hamlet has many opportunities to kill Claudius, but is unable because of the wrong timing.

In Hamlet Prince of Denmark young Hamlet is left facing the outcomes of the conflict his father had with his brother. Old Hamlet is dead, killed by his own brother for the thrown of Denmark. Young Hamlet is in deep morning over the loss of his father and now he has to handle the remarriage of his mother to his own uncle, the man who in cold blood killed his father. Hamlet, with the death of his father, is acting strangely but his whole outlook changes for the worst when his father's ghost visits him. He finds out the true causes of his death and he is influenced by his father to seek revenge. Hamlet's father tells his son to kill his uncle, Claudius because he is the cause of his death. Hamlet loved his father deeply and would do anything for him. He becomes enraged with anger and hate for Claudius and begins to plot his revenge, Claudius' own death. Throughout the play his father's ghost visits Hamlet. Even after his death he has a great control over his son and his actions. These visits are a constant reminder to Hamlet of the truth. Knowing the truth of his father's death has driven Hamlet to the brink of insanity. The only thing he can think of is revenge. His father's death and prior conflict with his brother has left Hamlet in a position of honoring his father and doing right by him, and the only thing he sees fit to do is rid himself of the man that brought about the anger Hamlet is feeling. In the end Hamlet finally gets the revenge he sought with the death of Claudius.
Old Hamlet is killed by his brother Claudius. Only two months after her husband’s death a vulnerable Gertrude marries her husband’s brother Claudius. Gertrude’s weakness opens the door for Claudius to take the throne as the king of Denmark. Hamlet is outraged by this, he loses respect for his mother as he feels that she has rejected him and has taken no time to mourn her own husband’s death. One night old Hamlets ghost appears to prince Hamlet and tells him how he was poisoned by his own brother.

These are all issues that Hamlet battles within himself. Hamlet's indecision is followed by inaction. The reason for this struggle with indecision can be based on many factors or on a combination of a few.
In the beginning of the play, Hamlet has returned from Wittenberg to honor the death of his father, King Hamlet, and the ghost of his dead father suddenly confronts him. The ghost of King Hamlet has returned to inform his son about the murder that his brother has committed. While King Hamlet was asleep, his brother, Claudius, placed poison in his ear and left him suffering to die. The ghost of King Hamlet sets the main conflict of the play into motion and puts the idea of revenge into Hamlet’s mind. He says to Hamlet:

Prince Hamlet, who suffers from Oedipal Complex, falling in love with his own mother and considering father as a rival to his love, can't make his mind whether to kill his uncle and take his father's revenge or not. And ask this question from himself, because on one hand he knows that if he kills Claudius, his companions will kill him, on the other hand his father's ghost appears to him and asks him to kill Claudius.
