I can’t hold in my excitement as I run to the foyer. Mom looks at me worriedly, but I ignore her and throw open the door before the person standing behind it can knock. He looks at me with boredom lacing his expression, obviously expecting my weird gift to tell the future. I quickly hug him and grab his pale hand, pulling him outside. Tonight is Halloween, and the only time my pale blonde friend visits me. He’s my first and only friend, so I don’t mind that he doesn’t play with me the other three hundred sixty-something days in the year.

As I adjust my bumble bee dress, I drag him to the nearest house and knock on the door. The lady behind the door gives me some candy and closes the door. I look to my silent friend with worry as he shrugs and pulls me to the next house. The next person only gives me candy and doesn’t even acknowledge my friend. It’s weird seeing a grown adult dressed up for Halloween, so I grab his clipboard as a joke. They try to grab it from me, but I run in circles around them. I throw the clipboard at my friend that hasn’t talked since I met him last Halloween, but he doesn’t catch it. I quickly pick it up and giggle as I look at it. The words on the paper make me freeze. I look up to the adults looking at me with pity in their eyes. The clipboard slips from my hands as two words pass through my mind. Imaginary Friend. He isn’t imaginary. Determination runs through my veins as I show them that he is real. I gesture to him, lift up his arms, ruffle his hair, and even throw his demon mask at them.
